My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HELLO!! ASTA ( pronounced AzSTA) * her name means "STAR". She is a LOVELY, BEAUTIFUL, PETITE , Gentle, SHY , LOVING , dog, she is between 10-12 months old, and has a delicate bone structure of a Whippet, and the markings of a smooth coated collie yet the size of a smaller breed - so it could be sheltie X greyhound or smooth collie X whippet..fact is we really dont know! but she is a REALY LOVING DOG! ( and the gentle loving personality of BOTH breeds - she is not as tall as either breed... hence she MAY be a whippet cross - rather than greyhound as they are rather tall.- whippets are a much smaller verison of a greyhound.
Her coat is smooth - but not like a whippet short - and not long like a sheltie, its more like a smooth coated collie. the hair is short and a bit thick in certain areas.
This Lovely little girl is taller rather than heavier her height will classify her as a med . size dog- BUT she only weighs about 20 lbs.

She is rather shy at first, but VERY gentle, and loving when she gets to know you. This lucky girl was rescued from a kill shelter- and then the dear lady that saved her was unable to keep her and gave her to us to find her a perfect home.

She is fine with dogs & cats . She is rather submissive in nature, and is not a pushy dog at all.

She is NOT a nippy , She is very gentle to humans, the wonderful woman that saved her had her with her infant baby and her young child , and ASTA was loving licking and giving kisses to them.

She is a "velcro dog" and loves to follow you around the home, and she IS crate trained. this dog takes food from your hand so gently and carefully - its as if she fears her teeth even touching your fingers.

She is a beautiful, petite lady , and deserves a home with sweet loving people, that will be patient with her while she gets to know them , and will love her a lot.

She is calm and very attentive in the house.

YOU will adore this Gentle , loving dog! I am SURE she would LOVE to FINALLY have her FOREVER home, and a family of her OWN to love and adore.

Adoption fee $ 175.00 , she is spayed , UTD on shots, wormed, and microchipped , started in basic obedience training including leash work. We are socializing her as much as possible to try to get her to be a bit more outgoing and less shy. She is already showing marked improvement.

UPDATE ON ASTA mar 27th 2006:

ASTA has REALLY blossomed while in foster care with all the dogs and cats, She no longer is the shy, timid dog she was when she came here, she LOVES to play and will PREFER a home with another dog loving dog, to play with. We will not be placing her with a home that does not have a friendly dog to play with her, as we feel- she will become bored , and a bored dog , can become a problem dog.

She is a tad wild with the cats lately- she doesn't HURT them, but annoys them as she loves to chase them around, my younger cats deal with this better than the older cats who hate her. I think she would be best in a cat free home, unless your cat is young enough to enjoy being chased around by her in play. We have also found out she can jump high! Asta is still very good with kids , and she is still gentle , yet she is playful after she is sure her family is loving and will not hurt her. Until she felt totally comfortable here - she never showed us this side of her. So we feel she will do the same in her new forever home, at first will be shy & timid, once she realizes she is loved and will not be hurt- she will blossom out the same way she did here. She is FAR more trusting and outgoing to all people now , and far less afraid of anything. She is now truly acting her age which at between 10-12 months old - she still has a LOT of puppy playfulness in her, that she was NOT showing before she became more trusting, and realized that all humans are not bad, mean & hurtful.

IF you have a young family - a friendly dog that would like a pal, and even kids that will enjoy playing with her, ( or perhaps you are an active person ? and would love a companion to hike, jog, or play with. ASTA may be the right dog for you!

* she is fully crate trained and housebroken, and working on basic obedience skills, and doing just wonderfully.

APPLY for ASTA today!!

ASTA was pending adoption, but as her personality changed( developed) she is now, no longer pending- the match is just NOT right. if you applied before for her- and were told she was pending PLEASE, feel free to re-apply if her new profile sounds like a dog that will fit your family & lifestyle.

***********************************
ASTA does NOT require a fenced yard- as she can be an escape artistt , a running tie, or an E fence should be FINE for her. Naturally the running tie should ONLY be used for poytty breaks and maybe when your in teh yard supervising..- She will be a great dog to take to the dog parks & dog beach too.. or to jog with you, etc.
