My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Declan, the adorable pitt/lab mix eagerly awaiting his forever family. Declan, pronounced 'Deck-lan,' carries the Irish meaning of 'full of goodness.' This little guy had a rough start in life, but his resilience shines through. When he first arrived at his foster home, he was so sick that his foster mom even slept in the bathroom with him. Talk about dedication!

Now, Declan is completely house-broken and crate trained. He's a pro at sleeping quietly in his crate all night long. Despite his large size, he's bursting with puppy energy and loves nothing more than playing in the yard with tennis balls and a flirt pole. Any average-sized yard will do for this boy!

Declan shares his foster home with a cat, whom he sees as a potential playmate. He can't resist the temptation to playfully chase the feline, so he requires supervision when interacting with his furry friend. During mealtime, he patiently waits for his foster mom's signal before approaching his food bowl. He's also in the process of mastering 'calm leashing' skills, where he sits patiently until his leash is secured.

This handsome pup gets along famously with his pit bull foster sister, but as he's grown older, he's developed a slight tendency to resource guard high-value toys and his food. If another dog comes too close, he might let out a low-level warning growl. However, his foster siblings understand the situation and it never escalates. Rest assured, Declan has never shown resource guarding behavior with humans. He can be a bit nervous around unfamiliar dogs, resulting in barking, so he could use some practice and training in this area. Leash walking is also an area where he needs some guidance due to his nervousness around unknown dogs.

Believe it or not, these amazing pictures don't do Declan justice. You simply have to see him in person to witness his true beauty! If you're ready to provide Declan with the loving home he deserves, please visit our website at Codysfriendsrescue.org to submit an adoption application. Declan can't wait to meet his forever family and show them just how wonderful he is!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Thank you for adopting and not buying!!! Every week hundreds of highly adoptabledogs are put to death by local shelters. Most people would be amazed at the purebred and beautiful dogs available, if they walked into their neighborhood shelter.

Rescue organizations, like mine, work hard to save as many as we possibly can but is a never ending process with breeders and Puppy Mills selling unhealthy animals to the public. If you EVER saw a puppy mill you would NEVER buy again!

All of my dogs are neutered or spayed, vet checked, completely vaccinated, wormed, groomed and checked for heart worms. They are all are current on Heart worm medicine, flea, and tick medications. They are all microchipped as well.

Adoption fee is $300 to $350 (older "friends' can be less, please inquire. Puppies are $350 - Besides fully vetting all dogs, some of of the dogs I rescue, 1 in 5 I rescue have heart worms which is very expensive to treat. I also take in dogs who need surgeries and are close to death.

More about this rescue

About us: Cody was the first pet I owned as an adult. He was a Shih Tzu that I bought unknowingly, from a Puppy Mill. He fought for his life and barely survived, suffering for the first few months of his life. From then on I was stirred by a ferocious passion to save as many dogs as I could through networking with other rescue groups and saving the ones I could off of cold streets and unwanted in shelters. Cody did not live a very long life due to a weakened body, but I was able to love on him for eight good years! He will always be loved and forever remembered. With over 400 dogs rescued so far, we ARE making a difference!!
Thank you for visiting and considering a rescue........................
