My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ready for the cutest dog in the world? "Buster" is a 75-lb (and growing), approx 10-mos old yet-to-be neutered male GSD mix who is playful, super-affectionate and well-mannered for such a young dog.

Buster is wonderful with everyone he meets, though he does need further training to discourage him from jumping on people when he first meets them. His youthful exuberance might pose a little hazard for really young kids, but I'm confident that Buster would quickly tone down his energy for the little ones.

Buster is fantastic with other dogs. He loves to play (see elsewhere on this page for a video) and has displayed zero aggression towards any of the other dogs at GSRSV's rescue ranch. I will give strong preference to prospective adopters of Buster who have a large, young, playful dog for him to play with!

I don't know how Buster is with cats, but I imagine he'd be OK w/ a very dog-savvy cat. However, I will only consider giving him a try in a home w/ a cat if there is a already a dog present that he can play with and expend his energy on.

Buster is housetrained and has not had a single "accident" inside at GSRSV's rescue ranch, where he has access to a dog door. He has chewed on a phone power cord and has done a little counter-surfing, but otherwise is very well-behaved inside. He has received very little training but is a very fast learner; he learned to sit for treats in just a few minutes. He definitely needs leash-training.

Buster LOVES to go for car rides and is a very calm passenger. This dog is ready-made for adventures!

Buster loves to swim in the pond at GSRSV's rescue ranch.

Buster is completely healthy but he does have a "hygroma" on his left elbow (as can be seen in his pictures on this page). [UPDATE 3-18-24: the hygroma is now almost completely gone!] A hygroma is imply a benign cyst caused by an impact or prolonged contact against a hard surface; they typically resolve on their own. A veterinarian examined Buster's hygroma on 1-12-24, withdrew some fluid from it and determined that there is no infection present. The hygroma is now smaller than it appears in the pictures. Buster's hygroma causes him no discomfort.

Buster was adopted as a young pup by a family in Vacaville. They recently moved into a rental house in which they were not allowed to keep large dogs. His person (Paige) then resorted to keeping Buster in her car for awhile, letting him out several times throughout the day. Paige's husband contacted GSRSV back in December letting us know of Buster's plight and so we took him in in late December.

Buster's adoption fee is $300. This fee includes the full cost of his neutering at the Sacramento SPCA ($175 for GSRSV), or a $175 reimbursement for his neutering elsewhere. In addition, a $300 neuter deposit is required. This deposit will be refunded once the adopter provides proof of Buster's neutering. The adopter can have Buster neutered at the Sac SPCA (we won't have an appt there for about four months), or will have 90 days to have Buster neutered at a vet facility of their choosing.

Donation
GSRSV became a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, charitable organization in March 2013. All donations to GSRSV are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Since February 2001, Brian Foran has funded GSRSV primarily on his own. Donations have played--and continue to play--a huge part in keeping GSRSV afloat, as adoption fees are a drop-in-the-bucket compared with the costs of running a large rescue program.
To make a monetary donation, please go to the donation page on GSRSV's Website: www.gsrsv.org/DonationsNeeded.htm. Thanks for your support!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

1. View my dogs available for adoption, either on this Website or on our own Website (www.gsrsv.org). I also list German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixes for other rescue groups and inviduals on my Website.

2. Contact Brian Foran at 916-655-3125 or bab43@msn.com to discuss the particular dog(s) that you're interested in.

3. Complete my adoption questionnaire. It is a downloadable Microsoft Word file on the page of my Website titled "How to Adopt a Dog through GSRSV." If possible, return the questionnaire via e-mail.

4. Go see the dog you're interested in--at my rescue facility, at the home of the dog's foster caretaker, or at the home of the dog's owner.

5. If you decide to adopt a dog, I will have you sign my adoption contract and pay the appropriate adoption fee, which varies between $300 to $100, depending on the age of the dog and whether it is a purebred GSD or not. This fee includes spaying or neutering, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations, heartworm check, and a 6-month supply of heartworm preventative. The adoption contract is on the same page of my Website as is the adoption questionnaire.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Because I am an independent rescuer caring for many dogs, I am presently unable to conduct regular adoption or "meet & greet" events.

I only arrange for people to meet the dogs that I have available for adoption after I have discussed the dog and have received an adoption questionnaire from them.

More about this rescue

German Shepherd Rescue of Sacramento Valley (GSRSV) is an organization dedicated to finding good homes for German Shepherd Dogs (GSDs) at risk of being placed in shelters, or who are already in shelters and possibly facing euthanasia. GSRSV is an independent rescue organization operated by one individual: Brian Foran. Though countless volunteers and benefactors have supported--and continue to support--GSRSV, I run and primarily fund the program, as I have since February 2001.
