My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Chelsea: A Resilient Great Pyrenees with a Gentle Spirit!

Breed: Great Pyrenees
Estimated DOB: 03/01/2023
Sex: Female - Spayed
Weight: 45-50 lbs
*BREED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO ADOPT*

Things To Know About Chelsea:

- Chelsea is a purebred Great Pyrenees, as confirmed by an Embark DNA test, and she embodies all the charming traits of her breed.
- Her Story: In May 2023, at just 3 months old, Chelsea was dumped at a Mississippi shelter by being callously shoved under the fence. Despite the severe hardships she faced, including a spinal malformation and being congenitally blind in one eye, Chelsea's gentle demeanor never wavered. Her extensive medical journey included numerous vet visits, tests, and a crucial surgery to enhance her quality of life. Dr. Rosen, Chelsea's neurologist at VRC, emphasized that a radical stabilization surgery was essential for her to experience a pain-free and improved quality of life. Read more about this on our website: TLCrescuePA.com/BarkingBack
- Personality: Chelsea is an absolute sweetheart, embodying the charming traits of her breed with a Pyr-like goofiness that brightens everyone’s day.
- Social Behavior: While she can be aloof at first, Chelsea enjoys meeting new people and is great with kids of all ages, often visiting schools.
- Activity Level: Her energy levels are low to medium. She enjoys playful times with her toys and self-entertaining antics.
- Outdoor Preferences: True to her breed, Chelsea loves being outdoors in any weather.
- Training: She is progressing well with leash training, though she shows typical Pyrenees stubbornness at times.
- Night Routine: Chelsea enjoys peaceful nights in her cozy, gated space, with the soothing hum of her sound machine helping her sleep soundly.
- Good with Dogs: Dog-friendly, she loves playing with other dogs and lives happily with multiple canine companions.
- Good with Cats and Other Animals: Cat-friendly and even pig-friendly, coexisting peacefully with the family cat and pet pigs.
- Ideal Home: Chelsea is looking for a forever home that can provide the love, care, and understanding she deserves, ideally with someone experienced in managing her breed's needs.

Additional adoption info

We do our best to keep the adoption process straight-forward and simple in an effort to get our available pets into a permanent, stable and loving home in a timely manner. You will be asked to fill out an adoption application giving To Love a Canine Rescue, Inc. information about yourself, your family, your home and your experience with pets. You will need to provide a vet reference and multiple personal references. Our goal is to find our animals the best possible home and, if multiple applications are received, To Love a Canine Rescue, Inc. will make the decision as to which home would be best for that particular pet.

PLEASE NOTE:

**We DO require that ALL dogs and cats in your household are spayed or neutered, kept up-to-date on required vaccines, and that they are seen annually for a check-up. In addition, we also require dogs to tested for Heartworm routinely & kept on Heartworm preventatives year-round.

**We do NOT require a fenced in yard unless otherwise noted for a specific pet.

**We do NOT have restrictions regarding children in an adoptive household unless otherwise noted for a specific pet.

**We do NOT SHIP animals. If you are interested in adopting one of our pets and live outside of our area, you will be required to come meet and adopt the animal in person if your application is approved.

**We do NOT hold animals.

**ALL APPLICANTS MUST GO THROUGH OUR ENTIRE ADOPTION APPLICATION PROCESS - WE DO NOT MAKE EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.

All TLC dogs are up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations and have been microchipped with lifetime registration prior to being adopted.

The non-refundable adoption fee includes: a wellness exam; heartworm testing, if age appropriate and treatment where necessary; deworming; spaying/neutering (unless a dog is too small/young to safely perform the surgery prior to adoption); and the full support of our staff, as well as free phone/email support from our trainers. Our trainers also offer discounts on obedience training classes with them.

To meet increasing veterinary costs, our adoption fee are $395 for dogs over 6 months of age & $425 for puppies under 6 months old.

Please note: There is a refundable spay/neuter deposit of $225 for puppies that are intact at the time of adoption All intact puppies adopted from TLC are expected to be spayed/neutered as soon as the vet determines it is safe to perform the procedure The deposit will be refunded to you when we receive a copy of the spay/neuter certificate provided by your vet after the procedure is performed. This deposit is not part of the adoption fee.

If you are approved to adopt puppy that is not yet spayed/neutered, your adoption coordinator will speak to you about the options and timing for spay/neuter surgery

Why is there an adoption fee?
Adoption fees help cover the costs of care (veterinary, food, transportation, etc.) of our dogs while they are waiting to find their furever families. Many veterinary clinics provide care to rescues at a discounted rate which is why the adoption fees we charge are significantly less than you would pay if you bought a dog and then had to make arrangements to pay for the basic vetting we provide prior to adoption. Additionally, adoption fees also help pay for extra care some of our may dogs need, as well as help support TLC pay for the basic costs of “doing business.”

More about this rescue

To Love a Canine Rescue, Inc. (TLC) was founded in 2013 and is a non-profit, all-breed, foster-based rescue located in suburban Philadelphia. Our mission is to rescue and find permanent homes for abandoned, stray and surrendered dogs. Rather than being housed in stressful shelter environments, our dogs live in the homes of volunteers where they thrive on attention and love. Our dedicated foster families interact with the dogs to learn their strengths and to understand their challenges. Adding a new member to your family is a lifelong commitment. TLC will work with adoptive families to ensure a smooth transition and help facilitate additional support that may be needed to maintain a happy forever home for everyone.

ADOPT:
At To Love a Canine Rescue, Inc. (TLC), our adoption process is simple and straightforward. We want you to find a new family member, and we want our rescue dogs to find their forever homes. Applications are carefully considered and processed as efficiently as possible by our volunteer-based application team. We speak to veterinary references, landlords, personal references, and each potential adopter prior to approving an application. When you adopt from TLC, you become a member of our extended family, and we will be there with continued support even after adoption.

TLC dogs are all spayed or neutered, and brought up to date on shots appropriate for their age. They are also micro chipped prior to being placed in their new homes.
It is our goal to connect devoted families to loving dogs in need of their everlasting home. We believe in being very honest with our potential adopters and we present everything we learn about our rescues in order to make sure we have a successful adoption. Additionally, TLC foster families and associated trainers will work with adoptive families to ensure a smooth transition and help facilitate additional support and training that may be needed to create and maintain a stable and happy home for our dogs. From puppies to seniors, there is a perfect dog out there for everyone. We pride ourselves on making the right connection between dog and family in order to give our dogs their final, joyful, loving home. Ultimately, our wish would be for empty shelters so no dog is left behind.

TLC is designated as a 501(c)(3) by the IRS. Donations made to TLC are fully tax-deductible as allowed by law. The official registration and financial information of TLC may be obtained from the Pennsylvania Department of State by calling 1-800-732-0999. Registration does not imply endorsement.
