Meet Dasher! This little survivor was roaming the streets for at least 2 months, too scared to approach people and traveling through 7 cities eluding capture. Finally, our amazing friends at Buddha Dog rescue and recovery were able to trap this shy sweetheart and bring her to safety! Though initially very nervous she does warm up and has started giving kisses to her friends, and we are still giving her time to open up and show more of her personality. She was clearly never well socialized and is getting used to walking on leash and feeling comfortable in her new environment. She will be a major flight risk always due to her skittish nature so her adopter will have to be extra cautious to make sure she is always securely on leash and not given an opportunity to bolt if spooked. We believe Dasher to be about 3 years old and she's full grown at 18lbs. She appears to be a purebred Portuguese Podengo and shows many of the common personality traits of the breed- athletic, alert, wary of strangers, and highly intelligent and sensitive. Please submit an application if interested in Dasher Primary Color: Red Age: 3yrs 3mths 1wks

More about this shelter
Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.
To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
