Meet Marley. Marley came to us from our friends over at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter so if you thought that you recognized him from over there, you would be right! While in their care he spent time in a foster home, and they reported that he warms up quickly and that once he knows you, he just wants to follow you around and jump in your lap. They noted that once comfortable he becomes quite confident and can even be a little bit bossy, so he will need a savvy adopter who is ready to dedicate time to proper training and boundary setting. Since he has been here with us, shelter staff have noted that he has a tendency to exhibit some cheeky puppy-like behaviors such as mouthing and jumping and that he can be a little sensitive to handling so an adult household would likely be best for him. He is liable to chase cats and other small animals, but a home with another dog may be a fit for him provided they meet first at the shelter. He may look like every other tan chihuahua, but he's got personality out the wazoo, and he'll make someone a great little dog. If you think that you might be his person, fill out an Adopters Profile, call the shelter to schedule a meet and greet, or stop by during Browsing Hours Wed-Sun 11-5!

Additional adoption info
In response to COVID-19, and the current social distancing rules, all of our animals are now being housed in foster homes and our adoption procedures have changed. Please read the following ADOPTION STEPS on our website for further details!
**Please Note: Most of our adoptions are beginning with a foster-to-adopt period, and because of this, we are temporarily unable to consider applications from households outside the counties of: Santa Cruz, San Benito, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Monterey.
If you rent, please have a copy of your lease or a letter from your landlord that states you can have a pet(s) ready.
If you’re adopting a dog, introduce your future friend to any other dogs in the family (dog adoptions only).
