My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What is your name?
My name is Zamboni.

How old are you?
I am around 3 years old.

What kind of personality do you have?
I am high-energy & goofy. I love to be on the go & make a great adventure partner. Hikes. Walks. Going to a park. Playing on the playground. Exploring. Anything outside- I love it. I am going to learn how to swim this summer. My foster mom thinks I am going to love swimming & she can’t wait to take me on a float trip. I love being around people & if you are doing something, I want to be doing it too.

I am learning that hanging out at home is fun too & I like to sleep on the couch as long as my foster mom is chilling on the couch, too. I am getting better at being calm & don’t always have to be on the go. I like to lay on the couch & push the pillows off one by one until the couch is ‘just right’ & then I will take a nap. I do this all the time & my foster mom thinks it’s funny. I am not reactive if somebody comes up to the door or I hear something outside.

I am working on my manners & have come a long way. I can be mischievous & don’t always know my size. I need firm rules & boundaries to continue being a great dog- I didn’t know a lot about living in a house until Even Chance. I have learned that I can’t pull blankets off the couch & use them as toys…I am learning I can’t jump on people… & I am learning that I can’t drink out of the toilet… I didn’t have a lot of rules my first few years of life, but I am catching on quickly. I am a great dog & once I have this manners thing mastered, I will be even better.

What do you like to eat?
I love ALL food. Seriously, anything. I am extremely food motivated & will do anything for food.

What is your favorite toy?
I love toys. My favorite right now is the Chew King rubber balls. I am always carrying them around.
My goal is to tear or rip toys apart, so I have to be monitored at all times. I can destroy almost any toy if given a chance to. I am not allowed to have Kongs or anything like a Kong in my crate because I can tear it to shreds quickly. Oh, I also think blankets are toys, so I can’t have those in my crate… yet. My foster mom is hopeful that I will be able to one day.

Do you know any tricks?
I am learning each day. I know sit. I am learning spin, down, & how to fetch. I am mainly working on my manners & my confidence, but work on tricks sometimes. My foster mom is showing me that my dog bed is a great place to be when I am out & I am learning that I don’t always need to be right on top of people.

What scares you?
When I first came to Even Chance, everything was scary. I didn’t like going into stores, I didn’t like new people walking up to me, and I didn’t like any new noises I hadn’t heard before. Now, not a lot scares me. I am working on my confidence & do well in new situations if I am with someone that I trust. I might be a little timid at first, but I adjust quickly.

Do you like cats?
I like to chase cats and try to get them to play. I don’t understand that they are much smaller than me. My foster mom doesn’t think I should live with a cat.

Do you have any doggie best friends?
I love dogs, especially high-energy female dogs. I LOVE playing. I can be rude when I play, but I am just trying to have fun. I am learning manners when playing.

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
I live with my foster mom. She has friends over often. They bring their dogs over and sometimes even kids! I love when kids come visit. I am a big dog and don’t always know my size, so she only lets me play with bigger kids, but I do great with them.

Describe your perfect day:
My perfect day would be a day filled with activities from the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep. I would love to start it with a car ride and a pup cup from Starbucks. Then, I would like to go on a long hike and have a chance to smell everything. I love hikes. The longer, the better.

How is your health?
I am healthy. I had an unhealthy coat when I came to Even Chance, so I am still blowing my old coat, but other than that I am great!

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?
My crate. I am learning that it’s an okay place to be. I struggled with this a lot when I first came to Even Chance. I will need to have a steel crate to keep me safe.

Where do you sleep?
I sleep in my crate. I used to bark a LOT when I knew someone was home. I didn’t like to be by myself without someone. I am learning to be chill in my crate when it is time to sleep. This is something I am working on & I have come a long way. I need my future adopter to understand how important crate training is & continue to help me succeed. I used to bark for a long time when I first got in my crate, now I am only barking for a few minutes.

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?
I had a few different “lifestyles” before Even Chance. I started my life as a chain dog who lived outside. Eventually, I made it to the APA where I was adopted. Unfortunately, the family who adopted me did not take care of me & I was returned to the APA a year later in horrible condition. My second time at the APA was hard for me & the wonderful workers there helped me find Even Chance through the power of social media. Even Chance is giving me my chance & showing me what life actually should be like as a dog- no chains & no abuse.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they grow up. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for your and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
