My name is Sammy, although I’m still learning it. I’m a German shepherd mix and the vet thinks I’m almost 2 years old and weigh about 50lbs.
My foster mom found me in an unfinished construction house in her neighborhood. I was so scared!! But once I got out of the cold I felt so much better. I had to go to the doctor cause I had a big cut on my back but I’m all healed up and ready to play!! I have lots of energy so I need a home that will be active with me and has a yard.
I am potty trained and really like my kennel. I sleep in there and it’s my safe spot. Sometimes I cry when I’m in there during the day cause I wanna be next to people all the time! My foster mom says I need to learn patience cause I inhale my food and have to be the first one out the door! But I’m super smart and I’m learning ‘wait’ and I think I’ve almost got it down. I’m very food motivated and eager to learn new things when you have treats! I’m also a good alert dog cause I hear the door bell ring and let you know with my bark that there is somebody there!
I’m good with other dogs but probably best with dogs that aren’t small cause I think I scare them too much when I want to play. I can be scared of new people but after I get a good sniff and if you give me a treat I melt into your arms. I am good with kids but my foster parents say sometimes nip when I don’t get attention or if my foster sister is getting belly rubs and I want some too. They’ve been trying to help me learn that it’s not polite to nip to get attention, I just get a little jealous and try and remind you that I also like rubs. I love cuddles, ear scratches and chewing on my toys! I also love following around my foster family and making sure they’re always in my sight, my foster parents call me their shadow, cause I’m dark and always by their side.
Will you be my forever home?

Additional adoption info
Once someone has expressed interest in a dog, we send them an adoption application to fill out. These questions help us determine if the dog is a right fit for their home/living arrangements. We will then set up a meet and greet and (if possible) home visit, to make sure the dog will get along with everyone (especially if they have other pets). We also rely heavily on references. Once it is determined the dog and person are the perfect fit, we will continue with an adoption contract and adoption fee.
