My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Arizona. Yes, like the state. I am just shy of a year and a half old. I am a smooth haired collie mix. I am a sweet, sweet girl who just needs proper medical care to maintain my healthy way of life. My shelter friends say with proper medical care I can still live a happy and full life. I am heartworm positive, but I have completed my whole treatment process. I will be fully cleared to play and run with you around May 30th of this year. Then, 6-9 months later, the shelter techs say I will be able to be retested for Heartworm disease and statistics say that 98% of us that have undergone and completed treatment will test negative. I was so scared when I first arrived, but I have learned to warm up to people so quickly. I would love to meet you if you are looking for a friendly, cuddly, outgoing companion. I love treats, toys, and a soft comfy bed. If you are interested in meeting me, please come down and see me today.

We do offer meet and greets before you take a dog home, and we do recommend meet and greets for all dogs over the age of eight months to make sure that the dog will get along with your dog before they leave the shelter. We also offer a 'slumber party' program which allows you to take a dog home for three days before adopting to see if they are a good fit for your family. There is no cost or commitment for this - we provide the supplies, you provide the love!

Additional adoption info

HSSM is home to over 300 pets on any given day, most of which are looking for new forever homes! Your new best friend could be waiting at HSSM right now. Our beautiful, 41,000 square foot facility is currently open to the public. HSSM is open for adoptions Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary to adopt, however, adoptions are first-come, first served. You must come to HSSM to complete your adoption and make sure you bring a photo ID, as it is required to complete adoption paperwork.
Our adoptable animals page is self-updating and displays ALL of HSSM’s adorable adoptable pets from “pocket pets” to birds and of course the hundreds of dogs and cats currently calling HSSM home! See one you like? Make sure you note your favorite’s name and animal ID number so that HSSM staff and volunteers can easily find him/her when you come in!
Adoptions are cut off every day about 30 minutes prior to closing and possibly earlier if volume is high. Weekends are busy and you may have to wait more than an hour (especially in the afternoons) so please be prepared.
