My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Rescue Dachshunds.  Look around and read their bios.  Find a few whose personality seems to fit well.  Consider one of our Well Seasoned Seniors who are truly wonderful and have so much to offer.  Need help finding the best fit?  We'll help with that too.  Please fill out an application and let’s get you all matched up with a loving new “furever’ companion and friend. You’ll find the application on the “Available Dogs” page.  NOTE:   Adoptions to Central/South Texas residents only

Please see FAQs for current adoption fees.  DDRTX only adopts in Central/South Texas.

Shelby is very sweet 2 year old chi-weenie and happy snuggling with us. When visitors come she will bark, smell them and all is good. She is getting better welcoming visitors. She wants to be with her person and wants to please. We are working on socialization and meeting people and going places. She can be timid in new situations. She would love to be only dog but will put up with others. Seems potty trained if you let her out and will use potty pad. Shelby needs a 6ft wood privacy fenced in back yard so no apartment. The quick movements of children startle her and she could follow them out of the door. She is dainty and can jump and climb. She is cage trained. She is a fast learner.

Love dachshunds and not ready to adopt or circumstances won't permit having a dog?  How about being a sponsor or making a donation.  Every one of our dachshunds receives excellent medical care along with day to day food, love and housing.  Being non-profit, we rely on generous individuals like yourselves to help save these fur babies.  You can do this specifically for one dog with the sponsor button on their webpage or a general donation on our “How To Help” page.  Easy and quick through Pay Pal or your debit/credit card.  You generosity is sincerely appreciated by all and is tax deductable.  Need other ideas?  You'll find tons of them on the How to Help tab.  All contributions are tax deductable.

Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas is a non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization with focus on rescue and adoption of pure breed Dachshunds.  All dogs are fully vetted and housed on private property.  Meetings are scheduled upon adoption approval.  Thank you for your continued support to the rescue and shelter communities!  Opt to Adopt!

More about this rescue

Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas is an all volunteer group in the heart of Texas that is dedicated to the health, welfare and happiness of our dachshund friends. We are based in San Antonio, Texas but we have fosters/volunteers in Austin, San Angelo and DFW areas. We are a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. As such, we must rely heavily on donations and contributions to be able to pay the costs of health care, administrative needs, and other necessary expenses for each of our dachshunds. Diamond Dachshund has rescued, rehabilitated and placed approximately one hundred dachshunds each year since our incorporation in 1998. That's a lot of happy, healthy dogs and equally happy families! We strive to find the right home for each dog's individual personality and needs, so that the placement is permanent and both the dogs and the humans who adopt them, are equally happy.
