My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Nova, and here is a bit about me:
Breed: Pharoh Hound/Canaan Dog mix
Age: 1.5 years
Gender: Female
Weight: 30 lbs
Height: tbd
Highlight(s): Athletic, Outgoing, Sweet, Friendly

Even though I’m a young dog, I’ve already had quite an exciting life! I was taken in a few months ago after a really bad human tried to shoot me. I was so scared and confused that I bolted right through a giant bramble bush and as a result, damaged and lost sight in my left eye. The vets have now removedvthat eye, as it wasn't savable, but it doesn’t cause me any discomfort or challenges navigating my world.

I think my name should be Supernova, because I’m an explosion of joy and sweetness! I love other dogs, cats, and most of all attention! If you so much as make eye contact with me, we’re automatically best friends forever. But that doesn’t mean I have to be the only star in your sky; I’d love to have a furry sibling or two!

In the shelter where I live I make fast friends with everyone who comes into my orbit.

Despite my scary start to life, I’m not nervous or shy when it comes to new people, animals, or situations - not even at the vet! So I do not tend to bark at strangers or when seeing new people.

All it takes is reaching up my dainty paw to say hello and resting my chin on your lap and you’ll be seeing stars. I’m pretty sure that even in zero gravity, I could convince anyone to fall for me!

I’ve got all of the joy and enthusiasm of any puppy my age, so I’m trying really hard to learn how not to take off like a rocket when I’m out for leash walks. Not getting out much right now, makes it hard. Once I get regular outings, this should improve on toning down my jets. Everything is just so new and fun! I would be over the moon to find someone who is similarly adventuresome and looking to experience the joys of discovery with me!

I’m still a young girl, so someone who shares my athletic streak would be out of this world! I’m slender, long legged, and built like a desert hound, so I’d probably be an astronomical running partner. My vision loss doesn’t inhibit me one bit, so I’ll be up for any activity you enjoy. I’m ready for take off!

Energy Level: moderate

I get along with:
Dogs: yes
Cats: yes
Kids: unknown

Fears: unknown/none observed. Please be patient assisting me in my transition.

Training: some leash and making progress on house training
Leash skills: yes. I’m leash and harness trained. Please be prepared to continue training.
House trained: not really. Difficult to learn in a shelter environment. Please help me learn!

Health notes: I am now one-eyed.
I have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

My adoption fee is $800.00 CAD plus applicable taxes. This includes my transportation to Canada, if I am able to be accompanied by a flight volunteer directly to Vancouver.

Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.

Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live.

Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.

Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.

While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs.

The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.

Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.

[MID-EAST] *Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordetella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East.

[TURKEY] *Dogs receive 4D SNAP tests - which include: Heartworm, Ehrlichiosis, Leishmania and Anaplasmosis.

More about this rescue

Loved At Last Dog Rescue operates in the Greater Vancouver area. We rescue and rehome local dogs as well as homeless dogs from numerous countries around the world, including Mexico, Korea, China, Iran, Kuwait, Bahrain and India. Many of these dogs have experienced hardship and cruelty yet they are gentle and loving. We have found that dogs who have experienced suffering appreciate every kindness shown them. All our dogs are fully vaccinated, microchipped and those over 6 months are spayed or neutered.
