My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOCATED IN WATERLOO, ON at PetSmart Waterloo
DOB: 3 Jan 2020
Microchipped

Jack has such a very sweet, gentle temperament! He loves his humans so much that he greets you at the door when you come home, or walks ahead of you around the house like a puppy! He is shy in new situations and busy places, so he needs your love, patience and understanding in his new home. But he is worth it because he is a big-hearted, wonderful kitty by nature!

About Jack (from his foster family):

Jack was rescued from a hoarding situation with over 40 cats in one home. Many of the cats had health problems and Jack was one that ended up with a blind eye. A few weeks after he came to our foster home, he had an operation and what was left of his eye was cleaned out and his eyelid was sewn shut. This hasn’t stopped him from playing, jumping and frisking about. He’s super cute and looks like he’s winking.

He was extremely shy when he first arrived at our foster home and we started him out in one room to work on socialization. We were shocked to discover that he didn’t know how to use a litter box, so we coaxed him into an even smaller dog crate for 24 hours, where he started to use his litter box and has been very good since that time. The only quirk to watch out for is that he has pooped twice in the bathtub. We think, in the hoarding house, this is probably where the cats went to the bathroom, so we just leave the bathroom door closed and we haven’t had any further problems.

Jack has a very sweet temperament and is not at all aggressive with people. As much as he’s social and wants to be around people, he’s a bit wiggly and doesn’t love to be picked up. When you do hold him, he won’t scratch or bite you to get down, he’ll just push off until he can wiggle out of your arms. He’ll stay longer if you hold him on your lap and scratch his jowls. He loves head rubs!

He’s a bit like a puppy, in that he will run just ahead of our feet to see what we’re doing and where we’re going. He’s very curious and will crawl into cupboards or the fridge, if you aren’t watching which doors are open. He’s very loyal and, when we leave, will wait at the door for us to come home. Another thing to note is that he’s a very chatty cat and will chirp or sing at different times of the day – mostly when he wants a treat or wants attention.

We had two other foster cats while Jack was with us. He got along very well with the senior cat, who was slow moving and non-threatening. He did not get along at all with the younger male cat and became quite aggressive when we tried to bring them together. If Jack would be joining another cat in your home, you might want to read up on best ways to introduce new cats to resident cats.

Jack is motivated by wet food and loves treats. He is very playful and likes wand toys or objects he can bat around on the floor. He’s been good at not chewing the houseplants, but he has a quirky habit of loving to run his head through the leaves. I call it forest bathing. He loves getting his fur brushed.

Jack has been such a fun cat to have in our home because he loves to interact and to be around people. We hope he will find his forever family who will love the adorable little rogue that he is.
