My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet Chickpea is a soft, sensitive, shy girl that wants to be with people she can call her own. Like many English Setters, she will be like Velcro with her people, but not to the point of separation anxiety issues. She loves going to the Vet because people will stop, pet and talk to her. She is too soft mannered and sensitive for a home with young and/or loud/busy children. She is 5-6 years young and was rescued as a stray in Oklahoma. She’s now in a foster home near St Louis MO.

Chickpea is good with other dogs as long as given some time and space to meet properly. Like many of us, she expects her personal space, especially with strangers, and she will respect the personal space of other dogs. Once settled in she is fine with resident dogs that are not pushy with her. Chickpea would be fine with respectful smaller dogs. We do not know if she would be safe with cats. She prefers to eat and have treats separate from other dogs and this is something we recommend in general.

Chickpea is easy as far as typical field English Setters go. Her prey drive is low and her activity level is lower than other ES her age. She enjoys a romp in a securely fenced yard but does not need hours outside to run off high energy. She is very chill in the house and very much prefers furniture privileges and relaxing on the couch with her foster Mom. She is housetrained, treat motivated, likes riding in the car and good on leash. Chickpea is crate trained and a typical curious ES so she should be crated, at least initially, when no one is home or supervising her.

If you are looking for a youngish field ES that is not high energy/prey drive then Chickpea might be just the girl to you. And to show you how much she appreciates her furever home, she will Roooooo for you!
