My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi!  My name is Duke and I love warm hugs and belly rubs.  I’m a 9-year, old 80lb weim mix and my foster family tells me I’m amazing.  I have excellent house manner. I take treats gently from you and I don’t have any food or toy aggression.  I’m a pretty happy go lucky guy and I consider myself pretty low maintenance.  I love to sit and watch TV while you rub my belly.  I’m happy to listen to you tell me about your day (preferably while you’re rubbing my belly), I enjoy hanging out in the backyard with you, and I enjoy neighborhood walks.  I walk well on a leash and it doesn’t have to be a crazy long walk.  A nice 15-20 minute walk and I’m completely happy. Sometimes I get a little carried away and try to pull if I see a crazy squirrel (I can be strong) , but mostly I walk along with you and don’t pull.   I’m also a great car rider.  I like to look out the window and then I’ll lay down and enjoy the ride while you’re my chauffer.  I’m no back seat driver.    I recently went to a meet and greet for Weimaraner Rescue of Texas at a local brewery and I was very well behaved so I might even be a good boy that could enjoy going to a patio for coffee or drinks if you want company doing that.

I’m currently living with two fur foster siblings and I get along great with them.   I lived with some cats and bunnies before and I was a little too curious about them so probably best to not share a home with them.  I would really love to have a home with a backyard to watch over and a nice comfy couch to snooze on.  I am doggie door trained so if you have one of those it would be great.  I would be happy as a single dog or in a home with a doggie buddy to hang out with.  Probably a medium to large doggie companion so I don’t confuse them with the crazy felines.    You might be wondering how I ended up in rescue.  It seems I lived with my human and had a loving home until they got sick.  The rest of the family wasn’t able to take me in so I ended up in a shelter.  Luckily rescue scooped me up and now I’ll wait patiently until my new forever family finds me.   If you’re interested in learning more about me, please contact Weimaraner Rescue of Texas and they can tell you more about what an amazing guy I am.  Have a great day!  Oh, did I mention I love belly rubs!!!!!

More about this rescue

WEIMARANER RESCUE of North Texas, Inc. is an all-volunteer 501-C-3, non-profit, charitable organization.

Since 1989, our small group of volunteers has saved over 1,600 Weimaraners from suffering and death. We exist solely on donations and fund raising efforts. Every penny of our proceeds pay for veterinary care, food, boarding and essential expenses. WRNT began as the Rescue Committee of the Lone Star Weimaraner Club, Inc. (formerly North Texas Weimaraner Club). In 1997 WRNT incorporated and was granted 501-C-3 status by the I.R.S., enabling tax deductible donations to our rescue fund.

OUR MISSION is the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of Weimaraners from animal shelters, found stray, abandoned, neglected and abused. We educate the public on responsible pet ownership, and promote spay/neuter. We are dedicated to end the tragedy of pet over-population by opposing puppy mills, pet stores selling live animals, and irresponsible over-breeding of companion animals.
