Female, approx. 1 year old, 30 lbs

Personality: adventurous, outgoing, mischievous, quiet, eager-to-please, affectionate, smart, loyal, energetic, snuggler, goofy/funny, and playful.

Are you looking for a fun-loving and energetic cuddlebug who just wants to please her humans? Nicky could be the companion for you! She is a major snuggler with her people and is always up for a spirited game of fetch. This playful girl is a sweetheart who LOVES to hang with other pups, whether it's romping at the dog park or wrestling in the backyard.

Nicky's happy go lucky attitude is especially impressive because she recently had to have one of her rear legs amputated after lack of treatment, perhaps from being hit by a car. This hasn't stopped her positive outlook on life, or her ability to get around. Within four days of her amputation, this courageous girl could already walk steadily and it only took a few more days for her to conquer stairs as a tripod.

At just 1 year, Nicky still has some puppy habits like play-nipping, but she's doing well with housetraining and already knows "sit, "touch, and "off. Nicky has done great with crate training; after a short adjustment period, she settles right down. Nicky can be possessive of her food, so she would do best in a home with older children who understand that she needs her space. She also eats in her crate. With a little time to help her perfect her manners, she will make a great addition to your household - apply today to meet Nicky!

City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is a foster-based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. CDCK has a thorough adoption process to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model).

Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter for dogs six months and older. We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam before adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.
Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Leptospirosis, and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasmosis.
Most cats and dogs will have a house-training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.

Applications will be screened and if the applicant passes initial screening a volunteer will be in touch.

Applications Counselors will call the applicant’s veterinarian and personal references.

CDR&CK will visit each applicant’s home to see the environment where the cat or dog will live and answer any questions.

1. Application: Interested adopters should fill out an application for the cat(s) or dog(s) you are interested in. Only one application is required, and it applies for all cats or dogs listed on your application. If you are interested in adopting both a cat and a dog, you must complete an application for each type of animal.

Important Note Regarding Timing: We screen all applications to find what we believe will be the best environment for each particular cat or dog. If we believe that we currently have a potential match for you, our typical response time is within a week. If you do not receive a response within two weeks, please assume that we have not been able to find a good match. Please do not interpret a lack of response as a belief by City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties that you would not be able to provide a loving home for a cat or dog.

2. Applications Counselor: Approved Applicants will be assigned a volunteer applications counselor, who will review the application and have a brief conversation with each applicant to determine his/her needs and preferences.

3. Reference Checks: If applicable, CDR&CK will call the applicant’s veterinarian to ensure that previous pets have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated and well cared for. CDR&CK will also call personal references listed on the application.

4. Renters/Condo Owners: For renters, CDR&CK will check with an applicant's landlord to ensure that cats and/or dogs are permitted and that the cat or dog of interest wouldn’t violate any size or breed restrictions. We also review condo association rules regarding pets.
Home Visit: CDR&CK will visit each applicant’s home to see the environment where the cat or dog will live and answer any questions the applicant might have.

5. Adoption Contract: If the applicant is approved for adoption and decides to adopt the cat or dog, CDR&CK and the prospective adopter will enter into an adoption contract. The applicant will be required to pay an adoption fee, which helps cover our costs from spay/neutering (if age appropriate), microchipping, vaccinations and any other veterinary attention needed while in our care.
