My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jitterbug is a silly girl who begs for attention!

She has velvety Rex fur and loves pets on the head. She came into the rescue with her mom and brothers when she was just 1 week old. She and her mom Mocha were bonded until Mocha surprised us with another litter. Jitterbug is now separated by so wants to be part of the family! She's ready to find her forever home and get lots of one on one attention. She will be old enough to be spayed in June. Jitterbug would be a great candidate for bonding. She's currently being fostered in Rockledge.

Message to meet her!

BEST FOR: A household with older kids and up.

BIO: Please note! Baby bunnies are extremely fragile and not a good fit for young kids.

We rescued mommy bun Mocha and her 3 babies from a hutch situation in December. The boys will need to be separated from their mom and sister by the end of the month when they reach maturity. We aim to keep buns together because they are happier with a friend and bonding singles takes a lot of work.

The caveat is that they may squabble and will have territorial behavior (messy with their litterbox habits) when they get hormonal at around 4 months. The earliest they can get neutered to resolve that is 5 months. Their adopter must be prepared for that teenage phase.

They are playful buns though and Rexes are known for their friendliness!

About bunnies:
First time rabbit adopter? We can send you information about housing and care. You should also know:
3
- Bonding bunnies - both buns must be fixed or there will be territory issues and aggression. Read more on the House Rabbit Society website. Or contact us about low cost spay/neuter.

- Bunnies are NOT starter pets. They need (indoor) space and attention like a small dog would. They need hay, pellets and greens daily. And any health issues (not eating, etc.) require immediate attention.

- Bunnies are NOT a good fit for young kids. They are fragile, startle easily, usually don't like to be handled, and do not do well under stress like the general household noise that comes with little ones. Trust us, it's a lot of work you don't want to take on if you're caring for small kids. If your little one absolutely wants to meet a bunny, we can set up a visit with one of our more mellow bunnies and there's no commitment involved :)

- Bunnies can be somewhat skittish but they are also fun. If patient and understand that bunnies get comfortable with people on their own terms, you'll make a bunny friend. Spending time on the floor with them and offering treats is a great way to bond with them.

- Bunnies MUST be housed indoors. RHDV-2, a highly contagious and fatal wild rabbit disease in now in Florida and transmitted in the ground. Domestic rabbits cannot tolerate the heat. They also need to be safe from predators and parasites like ear mites. They will be much happier being a part of the family, inside.

We are a foster-based rescue. We do not have a shelter. Get in touch to set up a meeting to see our bunnies!

More about this rescue

Our rescue started in 2019 when an out of control breeding situation required help. We helped a homeowner get 100+ bunnies fixed and into homes. The need is so great in our county that we kept rescuing.

We adopt to indoor homes because:
- your bunny should be a part of your family! They will be happy, safe.
- Florida temperatures are too extreme for domestic rabbits.
- a hutch is not enough! Buns need space for exercise, social interaction, protection from the elements, mites, fleas, predators, and diseases.
