My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.

Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit.

Trent is a 12-year-old, 7 lb. Chihuahua who came to us from an overcrowded shelter. He had a concerning mass on his hind end and was in desperate need of medical care.

Trent’s mass was completely removed, and although it was malignant, ultrasounds thankfully confirmed it hadn’t spread. He will need to be monitored by a vet to make sure he stays cancer free. Trent received a dental and neuter as part of his vetting. Although he doesn’t have many teeth left, he loves to eat and happily gobbles down soft food. Like lots of little old men, Trent has some arthritis, and quietly shuffles along to where he wants to go. A trip to the water bowl and back may require a nap, but he loves to cuddle up in a soft bed. (He likes one in every room). To help with his joint pain, Trent takes daily Gabapentin which costs about $30 a month. A house with minimal stairs would be ideal. Trent also has some “old dog” heart issues but requires no medication for them. Although he can go to the bathroom outside, Trent also enjoys having pee pads in the house and wears a belly band. He is good on a leash but prefers short walks.

Trent currently lives with other dogs but tends to be more independent. He is easily handled and loves to lay in someone’s lap and get ear scratches. This sweet, little guy just needs a warm place to lay his head and he will fill your home with love. Won’t you please make him part of your family? Apply today!
