My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you!

Bruce is a gray and white 9 month, 14 pound Shih Tzu/Bichon Frise mix (Shichon). He was abandoned by his owner, and a family member surrendered Bruce to our rescue. Bruce has a wonderful, endearing personality. He’s one of those dogs who is so easy, and has quickly made the transition to his foster home. He's quiet and loves to hang out with his foster mom while she works from home, yet is playful and never tires of his toys, scattering them about as he entertains himself. He enjoys his daily walks and is friendly when meeting new people and other dogs, and is curious and interested in the outdoors. He especially enjoys sprinting around freely in his foster mom's fenced yard.

Bruce sleeps in bed with his foster mom, and he would love to be able to sleep with his new family too. He is doing well with house training when kept on a regular schedule, but his adopters must continue with a schedule so that he will be reliably trained. He is a good eater and enjoys treats. He really is a delightful, loving little boy who will easily win your heart and enrich your life.

His adoptive home must meet the following requirements:

1. Bruce is less than a year old, and could live another 15-16 years. His new family must be age appropriate so that they can care for him for the rest of his life.
2. Have someone who is home for much of the day.
3. Must be willing to continue with his house training.
4. Bruce has not lived with children, but a family with children over the age of ten will be considered.
5. Bruce will be okay living with another small dog in the house.
6. A secure, fenced yard would be great, but is not a deal breaker. But because Bruce is young and enjoys exercise outdoors, his family must be willing to take him on long daily walks.
7. Must live within 75 miles of New Brighton, MN
8. Agree to attend the annual rescue reunion held in September each year.

Bruce is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. He has "cherry eye" in his right eye and will be having surgery to repair this on March 6, 2024. Bruce will be available for adoption after he has recovered from the surgery, but applications for his adoption are being accepted now.

Bruce's adoption fee is $470.00 plus $40.07 sales tax for a total of $510.07. To meet Bruce, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at PetCo in the Southtown Center in Bloomington.
