Meet Little Benny, our 4 months old, about 6 lbs JRT mix. Benny is DEAF. He came to us at 8 weeks old and only 1.3lbs. He was being kept in a water barrel, was severely dehydrated and had hydrocephalus. With medical care, lots of love, and some time, Benny has transformed into a handsome, sweet, energetic, and playful puppy. Benny is not house trained but is pad trained if the pads are in familiar places. He stays in a playpen overnight; he sleeps for 6-8 hours before waking. Benny is full of life; he is always happy and has never met a stranger. He loves to play with all sized dogs and does excellent with children. He gets super excited when he realizes he is getting a treat and he loves chew bones. Benny is not a bid cuddler and is not crazy about being held, but he loves to sit in his foster mom's lap while she works on the computer and is big on late night couch snuggles. We are looking for a family familiar with the breed and is willing to work with Benny on training for deaf dogs. We are unsure if Benny will see further neurological improvements from the hydrocephalus, but he has made huge strides since coming to us. Currently, he has a bit of a wobbly head when he drinks/eats and when he is being held. He is a tad clumsy and cannot walk stairs. No other major symptoms are present. Adoption requirements- No inside stairs, No stairs to backyard, No young children. We prefer Benny to have a friendly, active companion dog as he loves dogs so much. Available for adoption 2/19/22.
