Duke is a handsome 2-year old male Boxer mix who was brought to the HSOV on January 30, 2024 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who had picked Duke up (along with his beautiful sister Lucy) on Dana's Run Road in the Newport Ohio area.
Duke has a dark brown/black short smooth coat in a brindle pattern, a large white bib on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face brindle/white face with beautiful brown eyes, a black button nose, and short floppy ears.
These photos were taken on February 3, 2024 when HSOV Kennel Tech Sydney Satow spent time with Duke for his Petfinder/Facebook/Adoptapet photos.
Duke weighs approximately 65 lbs and is very strong on a leash.
Duke has already been neutered and was given rabies vaccine on February 14, 2023.
In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Duke was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Neither Duke (nor his sister Lucy) were reclaimed.
We've learned that Duke does NOT do well with other dogs (or cats), so he would be looking for a home that he did not have to share with other animals.

Shelter management reviews applications for approval. If approved, potential adopters will be notified.

All HSOV dogs and cats must be spayed/neutered before being adopted and going to their new home.

Our adoption process includes an adoption application which must be completed and approved by our shelter management. We verify veterinarian references and also approval from landlords if the pet will be housed in rental property. Home visits may also be required prior to adoption. All dogs/cats must be spayed/neutered before being adopted.
Adoption fee for dogs is $150.00 which includes vaccinations, wormer, flea treatment, dog tag, microchip, and spay/neuter.
Adoption fee for cats is $40 and includes vaccinations, wormer, flea treatment, and spay/neuter. Most adult cats (and kittens over 3-months of age) have already been spayed/neutered.
