My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Walter! We picked him up as a stray here in Phoenix. He was riddled with ticks and fleas. Clearly had never lived inside...

Everything is new to him, he's very unsure of new people and needs a slow hand to help him learn that new people who aren't us, are ok! From our experience, he will be fairly quick to turn around given his temperament, though his new owner(s) would need to be aware and prepared to help him through the beginning!

He does fantastic in public on leash. He marches in like he owns any store we've gone into!

He's learning the crate but will whine for the first 10 minutes once you put him in. He follows a strict routine.

Walter does great with the little dogs, he takes and gives fair corrections if another dog tries to hump him.

He's a clingy dog, once he gets used to you, he's not going to stray far, which makes his leash skills A+! That being said, clingy dogs are not confident dogs. They are scared and stressed when you leave if you don't build their confidence. Little things like crate training, and teaching him basic obedience will drastically build his confidence.

Walter is what we consider an easy dog. If you follow our guidelines, he will warm up to you, and be your muse in less than 48 hours- but you can't skip steps!

*we do not adopt our dogs out to families with young children, regardless of temperament.

More about this rescue

Handover Rover is a no-kill rescue that focuses it’s efforts on helping animals that are forgotten, left for dead, abused, neglected, chained up, the ones that are in the worst conditions imaginable. We provide a massive amount of free content to help owners train their own dogs, so they don't feel the need to give them up. And we document everything for the public, from training our rescues to our rescue missions.
