My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
This pet was brought in by their previous owner on 2/3/2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Emil! Hamsters are hilarious, tiny, nocturnal omnivores that live in underground burrows. You may have seen fun-themed, brightly colored critter homes at the pet store, but WOW those are quite dangerous and really boring for the smart, active hamster. To keep your hammy happy and stress-free, they will need a large 600 square inch enclosure that offers no less than 6 inches of paper-based bedding to burrow in, a wheel (6" for dwarf, 10" for Syrian), and lots of soft wood toys to keep their teeth trim. Because these littles ones need special care, we ask that our adopters have things set up before adoption. Want to know more? Come and ask an adoption counselor today!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
