My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We`ve named her Jo and she arrived with other friends from home after her owner passed away. Jo has not lost her spirit, she`s very loving, gives kisses, bounces around the play yard like a much younger dog and was so GLAD for a little spa day to get all cleaned up and combed. As an older girl she has some needs so reach out and learn more. She would love to go home with her good friend Amy A897696 who`s a little smaller than Jo - they get along with peas and carrots. Let`s not forget about their good chi friend Bob (A897691) who`s here too. He was very afraid during his intake and sadly nipped a person and is serving his time in bite quarantine. We would love for all 3 to be with eachother if that may be possible. Bob will be available around 2/15 and will need a more tender touch.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
