My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Barney Fife is a handsome 7 yr old senior Lab with beautiful bronze fur. He weighs about 85 lbs., so he is a big boy! He was found as a stray by a good Samaritan who sought help from SCLRR. We don't have any information about his history. However, his body and temperament tells the story of a dog who likely lived outdoors most of his life, yet was loved enough that he enjoys and is relaxed around all people- craving affection and responding to basic commands. He even knows how to shake hands!
Barney Fife loves everyone he meets, male or female, young, old, and just wants to be loved! He lived with his first foster for 2 months in a condo with his foster lab sister and did very well. Barney is now with his second foster family and is enjoying having a large yard and hanging in the house with his chocolate lab foster brother and Bichon mix foster sister. He also has done well with the two foster male cats, but likes to steal their food. Clearly he is a Labrador! He does well in the busy household with 3 teenage children and his foster Mom and Dad.

Barney loves to ride in the car, and is well behaved while waiting, if you run an errand or two. He does fine being alone in the house for a few hours and usually just goes right to sleep. As a tall dog, the Lab in him keeps an eye on nearby counters and tables, so food needs to be out of reach. When on leash, he does sometimes pull when he sees something of interest, but he is easily corrected when using a pronged collar.

Barney is looking for a home with at least one seasoned big dog person and lots of love. He is fine on his own, but he really likes to be with his people, so a person that works from home would be ideal. He is a quiet boy and rarely barks. The only time he barks is when he is letting us know he is done with his meal. We keep all the dogs separate to eat as they like to sample each others food! He would be good with other dogs or would be fine as your one and only.

Barney is an absolutely sweet dog that just wants to be with you. He often just lays near his foster mom while she does dishes, laundry, or doing work in her office. Barney has good manners and does not jump on people, which is helpful as he is quite a big boy.

If you love those big, sweet boys, Barney is ready to come home. Just reach out to your Family Rep to meet this good boyIf you are interested in making this Lab part of your family, please contact your SCLRR family representative.
If you have not yet applied with us, please submit an online application to adopt; an SCLRR volunteer will then contact you. Please note that your homecheck must be approved in order for you to be put in touch with the dog's foster home.

Additional adoption info

SCLRR is a foster based, all volunteer rescue. Adoption applications and home visits are required for approval to adopt.

Careful time, temperment testing and fostering with further evaluating to help adopters find the right match for their lifestyle and for the dog's needs is the hallmark of SCLRR. We consider the needs of both adopting family and of our rescue dogs.

The fostered Labradors can be visited for possible adoption at the individual dog's foster home by approved adopters.

Thorough information is provided along with a folder of such things as up to date vaccine records, spay/neuter certification, microchip registration information, pedigree and kennel registration if provided along with any other paperwork we might have. A terms of Adoption is filled out and signed, providing ownership to the adopter.

The adoption fee is $350 or $150 for a senior Lab (7 years and older). Any known medical needs a dog might have are taken care of by SCLRR prior to adoption.

SCLRR prides itself on our high standards of temperment testing, medical care given and our fair treatment of adopting families.
