Meet Wiley, our gentle 60 lb Aussie Lab cross!
Wiley is a resilient pup who has overcome his rough start in life as part of the crew from a HSUS hoarding case of over 100 dogs. Due to his previous negative experiences with humans, Wiley is a bit shy and is seeking empathetic and patient individuals to welcome him into their hearts and homes.
In his foster home, Wiley has shown excellent house manners. He happily engages in independent play, chews only on appropriate toys, and willingly retreats to his crate when it's time for a nap or bedtime. While he's still working on being confined in his crate with the door closed, Wiley is content to spend time there with the door open.
Wiley gets along well with other dogs and loves to frolic and play with them in the yard. He's currently learning to feel comfortable on a leash, so a fenced yard would be ideal for him at this time.
Though Wiley hasn't been with us for long, he's already begun to relax and trust his foster family. He takes cues from the other pups in the home and approaches his humans for affection when they are receiving pets. He's a happy, loving boy who simply needs to move at his own pace.

We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well.
