My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MUST HAVE PREVIOUS BULLDOG OWNERSHIP EXPERIENCE.

HOW IS HE STILL AVAILABLE?!?He's PERFECT IS IT BECAUSE HES BIG? IS IT BECAUSE HE'S NOT A PUP?

Cletus

Located in the Sidney NE area

Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog fusion

3-5Years old

Dog Friendly

Cat friendliness unknown, he's lunged at one but then also didn't care about others ‍

Does fine with kids BUT he's a bull in a china shop and will knock small kids over so children 10 and over WITH DOG MANNERS only

House trained

Rings bells on the door to go out

Knows commands however if he will do them without being bribed by food is questionable

Will crate however he isn't the biggest fan, if you plan to crate him there better be a bed in there that feels like a freaking cloudand a giant hug combined

Will mosey to visit other humans if given the chance so a secure fence is a must

Can NOT handle EXTREME TEMPS

Must be allowed on the couch and in your bed or have a bed as inviting as yours

Loves to sunbathe but doesn't realize when it's too hot, so a dog door won't work and you will need to call him back in.

CANNOT use any training methods besides positive reinforcement, this isn't up for debate, he is way too passive a dog for us to allow him to be trained with ANY adverse methods. If you plan to put a "shock collar/Ecollar/Training collar on this dog move along

Needs high quality food and multiple supplements to maintain his heath and thrive in life

needs his wrinkles cleaned daily

The happiest of goobers

Not an outdoor activity dog

Fully vetted

90+lbs

Did you watch Tommy Boy and laugh hysterically? Do you think that “Saturday Night Live” in the early to mid 90’s was the best? Do you need someone to make you laugh and smile all day? Would you love a companion who’s world revolves around you? How about a gentleman that is so in tune with your emotions he knows exactly when you need it, a laugh or a giant hug? If you answered “yes” to the questions above, then guess what WE HAVE THE DOG FOR YOU!! He is an Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog named Cletus.

For whatever reason we cannot figure out we have had Cletus for 2 over years, no idea how or why because he is the best dog ever. In a perfect world his foster would love to keep him, but he needs an XL FENCED IN YARD which his foster doesn’t have. Cletus also would love more attention and lap/couch cuddles than he gets in his foster with all their dogs. Cletus is literally Chris Farley in a dog. He is the happiest and sweetest soul, just a true goober to the core. Cletus’s foster is home a majority of the day BUT HE doesn’t suffer separation anxiety or hasn’t in the 2.5 years he’s been with his foster. Cletus will crate but doesn’t like it, he’s not destructive so a crate really isn’t necessary, if he has to go in one is must be very large with a bed like a snuggly cupcake. He would prefer a home with other dogs who like other dogs on the rare occasion he wants to play. He is a GIANT dog, about 100lbs, we believe he is an Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog. He is house trained and rings the bell on the door to go out, if you don’t listen, he will come over, a maximum of 6” away from you and stare at you until you move and let him out. He is an incredibly passive dog, he will correct another dog gently or low growl in certain particular situations, Cletus is a dog who “uses his words.” In fact in 2.5 years and meeting over 50 dogs, the only dog he has ever had any angsty interaction with was Sybil’s dog named Dudley. Dudley started a fight with Cletus and Cletus was solely defending himself.  For those who didn’t know Dudley, Dudley was an asshole, he was Sybil in a dog… EXACTLY, so we can’t hold Cletus responsible for that situation.

Cletus makes no apologies for who he is, he is an all or nothing dog. “All” for Cletus includes  sleeping in your bed, taking up residence on the couch or lounge chair, and every now and then sitting in your lap or close to it. Cletus loves to cuddle with other dogs but doesn’t like other dogs to cuddle him without his permission, it annoys him, I know it sounds weird, but it’s literally his only hang up. He will just low growl and if the unwelcome, space invading, cuddle monster doesn’t heed his warning, he will just get up, in a loud dramatic huff, move to another spot and glare at you because obviously this is your fault.

Cletus loves dogs, all shapes and sizes, I have photos of him snuggling with Gilligan (4lbs) or Archibald Wolfgang (6lbs) as well we with Winnifred Josephine (125lbs), Quimby Magoo (60lbs) and Flora Kate (70lbs). When he moves homes, (which will only be happening 1 time), he may be a touch overwhelmed. We suggest that while he gets to know and trust you/his new owners and his new environment, that you go slow with dog introductions to avoid overwhelming him more.

Please remember that  he is a giant BRACHYCEPHALIC dog, he CANNOT do extreme temperatures hot or cold. However he does like to sunbathe for short periods of time outside when it’s warm but it’s your job to make sure he comes in and that he doesn’t get sunburned. He will also tolerate going outside to potty in the winter, (which  if we ever have another Winter like this is VERY important). This is not a great dog for camping unless it’s closer to “glamping.” Cletus is not a dog meant for hikes or even for an active home, he couldn’t keep up and he deserves more than a home where he is alone while you’re out frolicking up a mountain or spending a hot day at a lake with no AC. We would like him to stay in western NE/CO/WY area as there is so much less humidity and it makes it so much easier for him to breathe. He will also need a high quality food and multiple supplements to remain thriving and in good health. He is a bulldog and thus a higher maintenance breed.

We know that Cletus’s PERFECT HOME is out there somewhere. Until his perfect home is found he is spoiled and EPICALLY ADORED here! This dog is such a prize. He will NOT be leaving to any home that we don’t think is deserving of him. He deserves the most AMAZING home on the planet and we’ll be damned if we let him out of our care for anything less.

If you think Cletus would be a fantastic fit for your home, your home environment and your lifestyle and you know you can afford the financial commitment to Cletus’s high quality and higher cost existence please reach out!!!

We cannot wait to meet his new family and are looking very forward to Cletus’s next chapter in his life story.

Due to his predominant breed being an Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog we are seeking an adopter with BRACHYCEPHALIC BREED EXPERIENCE. Further all our brachycephalic dogs MUST vet at an AAHA certified vet, this is because of their extreme vet needs. Brachycephalic dogs are extremely expensive dogs to upkeep so please bare that in mind when applying and make sure you're in a financial place to take it on.

$400.00 Adoption Fee
(Which is considered a non refundable donation and being we are a 501c3 organization it is tax deductible. The fee itself is not negotiable, our vets don't negotiate and thus neither do we.)

WE DO NOT HAVE A FACILITY ALL OUR DOGS ARE LOCATED IN FOSTER HOMES. This means there is no place for you to go in person to view our dogs. We ask that an application be filled out and we will go from there!

Additional adoption info

We require an adoption fee which ranges based on age of the dog or cat. We also require a completed (and obviously accepted) adoption application, and home and reference checks. We don't do this to be nosey, but because when we bring an animal into our program we make a promise to that animal that they will go to the best home for them. We are more concerned with the quality of our adoptions than the quality
