My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Do you have a BFF? My BFF is my sister, Pepper. I'm Quincy, one of five 7-month-old brown tabby females who came to Paws and Claws with our mama Papaya. When we were about 2 or 3 months old, Mama would bring us to a garage in a neighborhood in Faribault. None of us kittens had been around people before, so the woman spent time with us to socialize us. She fed us; we have been eating Purina Kitten Chow. We also love wet food, especially Delectables Squeeze-up Treats and Churu Squeezable Treats. We are all playful and like to play with toys. We love snuggling up with each other. We do not like dogs. We liked the 12-year-old child who spent time with us. She took us to the vet for shots, deworming, and had us spayed. Pepper and I are very shy, so we got extra attention. In time, I let her pet me. I even let her give me belly rubs, and she got me to purr. Pepper and I spent lots of time together, and we'd probably adjust to a new home more quickly if we were adopted together. Sometimes a little voice can say the biggest things: You'll love sweet Quincy and Pepper, and we'd like to be your girls.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Paws and Claws Humane Society (PCHS) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization that rescues and shelters homeless cats and dogs until they can be adopted into their “forever” homes. We want our clients to understand that adopting and animal is a lifetime responsibility and commitment to that animal.

All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs.

After submitting an application, there is generally a processing period of 1-3 days in order to complete all pre-adoption checks and paperwork before an adopter may take possession of the animal.

More about this rescue

Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.

We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.

Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds. We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.

Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.

We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.

We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.

Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.

Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.

In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.
