My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Suga, a heartwarming 4-year-old Spitz mix with a story as inspiring as his sweet name. Rescued from a dog meat farm in Gimpo, Korea, back in 2022, this 23-pound bundle of bravery has made huge strides in his foster home with his dedicated trainer in Jersey City. Suga's journey from a challenging past to a hopeful present is nothing short of amazing.

Suga's been busy learning to adapt to the lively world around him. He's learning daily how to be comfortable with new faces, other dogs, and the city's bustling streets. He's not just a survivor; he's a fast learner, eagerly trying to understand how to accept guidance and help and has been doing better with each passing day!

Walking with Suga is a breeze. He's a pro on the leash, strolling by your side like a true gentleman. Although he's neutral around other dogs, he dreams of a calm and serene home, ideally with a single owner, where he can be the center of attention without other pets or young children. Suga's match? Someone who loves the outdoors as much as he does. Imagine the adventures you could have together, exploring trails and soaking up the beauty of nature. Also, he appreciates his independence and aloof but intelligent nature. Suga likes to take things slow, warming up in his own time. He thrives in an environment with clear rules and boundaries, paired with a patient and loving human who gets that he needs a little guidance and a lot of understanding. This approach lets Suga discover joy at his own pace, all while feeling secure and supported.

Playtime with Suga is a blast! He loves a good game of fetch and will happily chase and return the ball if you're willing to play. Plus, he's quite the foodie – always ready for a tasty treat, which is handy during training.

As a special Foster-to-Adopt VIP (read more below about the details), Suga is looking for a home that respects his past and is excited to be part of his future. He's come a long way, and with the right companion, he's set to become the most loyal and loving friend. Are you ready to be part of Suga's incredible journey? He's waiting to fill your life with adventure, growth, and unconditional love. Let's find Suga the home he deserves, where his new chapter can begin with you and end together in his forever home.

More about this rescue

We rescue dogs from the Korean dog meat trade. We work in partnership with local and regional Korean dog rescues and high kill shelters. Many of our dogs come from the brutal dog meat trade and also puppy mill survivors. None of these dogs will get adopted in their homeland.

We work to end the dog meat trade in Korea where over 2.5 million dogs a year are tortured and slaughtered for consumption because of the belief that tortured dog meat gives medicinal benefits. We stand with the Korean animal activists and rescuers in Korea. A portion of the adoption fee goes back to these groups in Korea.
