My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

King is an active, playful, and intelligent boy! He is the biggest cuddle bug and loves car rides with the window cracked. Tug of war is his game- he will play all day! He has lived with young children in the past and loved playing with them. His previous owner said that he does well with other dogs and cats, but is very playful and and doesn't always realize how big and strong he is! He's also very smart and know how to sit and shake, for a treat of course!

Volunteers say "King wanted to play for the entire time. He would have played fetch forever if you let him. He was very much into tug of war as well. He seems like a fast learner. King just needs something to do as an outlet for all that energy."

"It was great spending time with him and seeing King's personality. He loves playing tug and showing his energetic side but can also be calm and sweet and just want belly rubs."

"King and I took a car ride over to Grindstone Nature Area and went on a hike. On the car ride at first he was very excited and tried to sit up front but after a little driving he laid down in the back and relaxed. He loved going on the walk and is super strong so a very active person would be best for him. He is friendly to everyone and is an excellent hiking partner."

"King and I decided to go on a hike at Capen park and relaxed at my apartment the rest of the day where he took a nap. King was very polite, never barked, and was very curious at every person or dog that walked past! He just wanted to sniff them and say hello! He's a very good boy and knows how to sit. And he's so gentle taking treats. King also loves belly scratches! I think he would be perfect with any type of dog owner."

"We went to Stephens Lake Park and walked around, then ended our time with a pup cup. King was excited to get in the car, and enjoyed the fresh air on his face as we drove. He was curious in the car but sat well. We went on a fairly long walk around Stephens, and King was overall a good leash walker - he has a lot of energy but the only time he pulled on the leash was when we weren't walking fast enough to get to the next thing to smell. He did not lunge or jump at anything, and never barked. We then stopped for a pup cup on our way back and he seemed to really enjoy the treat. King is so gentle with people, especially for a dog with as much energy as he has."

More about this shelter

Welcome to CMHS! In continuous operation since 1943, the Central Missouri Humane Society promotes the well-being of companion animals – pets that enrich the lives of the people who love them.

The Columbia Humane Society was formed in 1943 to provide shelter and care for Columbia’s abandoned animals. Originating in a little structure on Creasy Springs Road, the organization has grown into today’s Central Missouri Humane Society, a regional animal welfare agency caring for thousands of animals annually and providing veterinary services for low-income pet owners.
