My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Pearl, the charming grey, black, and white feline whose captivating presence lights up any room. Despite her diagnosis of Feline Leukemia, Pearl is a resilient soul, brimming with an abundance of love and affection to share. With each gentle chirp that escapes her lips, she communicates her longing for companionship and human touch.
Pearl's fur, a mosaic of greys and blacks, is adorned with striking white patches resembling sun spots, adding to her unique allure. Her eyes, a mesmerizing hue of deep amber, exude warmth and kindness, reflecting the love she holds within.
In her world, affection is a currency she treasures above all else. Pearl craves cuddles and snuggles throughout the day, seeking solace in the comforting embrace of her human companions. She thrives on tender caresses and soothing whispers, her heart singing with joy at every display of affection.
Given her condition, it's paramount to keep Pearl healthy and protected. She flourishes best in an environment where she can be with other FeLV+ cats or in the company of feline friends who are vaccinated against the virus. In a household where her needs are understood and catered to, Pearl blossoms into the embodiment of love and resilience, enriching the lives of those fortunate enough to share their days with her.

If you are interesting in meeting any of our pets, the process is to complete an application.  It can be downloaded as a pdf document from our website and submitted by email to WindyRidgeRescue@gmail.com  as a scanned document or as photos OR can be completed entirely online. Both links are in the header of our website.

Because we are foster based, we require an approved application to schedule a meet and greet. We feel that is fair to our fosters and rescues so every meet and greet can result in an adoption. A limited number of cats are showcased at Peetco in Sumter, SC weekly.

We do not have set adoption fees for dogs, but hope adopters will donate generously so we can rescue more. The medical care for every dog can easily exceed the adoption donation.  Average adoption fees for dogs in the area range from $175 up to $450. Your generous adoption donations help us continue our programs of providing quality food and medical care to those who pass through our fosters.

We ask for a minimum adoption donation of $70 for cats who are not yet altered and $100 for cats who are already spayed or neutered, regardless of age.  Please bring your own carrier for the ride home!  Each cat is up to date on vaccinations, dewormer, and microchipped.  Larger donations are always welcome so we can rescue more.  Medical care for each cat easily exceeds the minimum donation.

As with every rescue, our resources are limited and the need for rescue help is unlimited. Your generosity helps us to rescue more and funds the only Trap Neuter Return Program in the county.  It's like tossing $100 bills in the woods when we trap a cat, vaccinate and spay or neuter that cat and then return them to the colony. Young kittens are tamed and available for adoption. We are alone doing this in our area. Your increased donation at the time of adoption can help us cover costs for the cat becoming part of your family as well as a feral to prevent more feral litters.

Adopting or fostering for a rescue frees up a space where a new rescue can reside.

If you can't adopt or foster, than please consider donating

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters complete an adoption application and all animals in the household attend a meet & greet once vet references and a home visit is complete. Fees are negotiable, but a non-refundable donation is required. Follow ups and access to a dog behaviorist/trainer is encouraged. A finalized adoption contract is required. Our rescue is an all volunteer organization and many of our volunteers are employed full time elsewhere. Please be patient for someone to contact you or return your call. Thank you.

More about this rescue

We are a group of people dedicated to saving animals in our community from being euthanized in shelters, living as strays, or ending up in abusive situations. We pool our resources and connections together with donations from our supporters to relocate the unwanted to areas of our great country where their fates are full of love and admiration and families of their own. We do adopt locally, although without a facility, we rely on fosters and our fosters appreciate knowing exactly when their guests will be leaving.

We also assist families and the community with Trap, Neuter, Return efforts and team up with pet parents and rescue partners whenever it makes sense to save and help more animals in need. We are always looking for short term fosters and drivers and of course, donors!
