My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there! My name is Serena and I'm about 1 years old. I weigh a whopping 77#s so I guess you can say I'm a big girl. I'm a black Lab mixed with Shepherd. As you can see by my pictures, I am all black except my paws, I mean my giant paws, are sable coloring like a Shepherd. Nobody knows my past history as I was found as a stray and picked up by a local animal shelter. Did you know large breed dogs and if their fur is black, we are the last to be rescued? Well, I must have won the jackpot that day because I got something called a Freedom Ride. Treasured Animal Rescue said give us a silly girl that needs a Freedom Ride. I'm in a foster home that has other dogs, cats and I do very well with them. My first couple days I had to learn so much. 1st, my name and then I had to learn the routine of a foster home. I didn't like going into a kennel, but I then realized my kennel (crate) is where I get my meals, nice treats and I catch up on my beauty sleep. Now, all my foster Mom has to say is "Serena, go kennel". I'm a real lady where I will tell you I have to go potty. No accidents from me. I will whine or give out a bark. Oh, let's talk about my bark. In the house I am very quiet unless all the dogs are barking but inside, I'm quiet. Outside? Oh different story. My foster home is right by a school and when we get to play outside and its school time, we see all these kids running around and lots of cars. That is when I bark, and I have a really loud bark. Like a locomotive bark but hello? I'm a Shepherd and Shepherd's tell you things when we bark. That's our DNA. I haven't been around little kids, but my foster family thinks I should have a caution. Not because I will be mean. I take food very gentle but when I get excited, I do jump and remember I noted my weight - that's a lot of weight jumping on a little tyke. I only jump when I get excited. But you tell me "Serena, down" I get down. See, not only am I pretty - I'm a smart cookie! Silly Serena is my nickname because I get silly. All the fosters are always posing for pictures. My family says we got to get good pictures to put in your profiles. Well, that's when I put on my silly hat. I know SIT and then I'll give you one of my paws and then just for the heck of it I go silly, and I roll over on my back and get you to rub my belly. So, if you are looking for a big dog to make you laugh but yet, let me be a lap dog than I am your gal. I could use a little help in walking on a leash. I do pull but not only am I beautiful I am also smart so I know in a short time I will learn walking on a leash. When I see other dogs (mostly big dogs) I do get very excited and will bark some more. Small dogs are more my speed and I make friends with them right away. So, what do you say. Ready for silliness? All you got to do is complete an application and our fun times begin! xoxo, Serena Serena is located in our foster home in Aurora. **Note on fleas** Those sneaky little critters can hitch a free ride into your home aboard another pet, person, or even rodent, so it is important to make sure your new pet is protected. Depending on the time frame your adoptable pet has been in our foster care it might have had just 1 dose – which is not enough. Please consult with your Vet on putting your new adoptable pet on yearly flea/tick prevention – even if they are an indoor pet.

Adoption fees:

Puppies/Dogs - $400
Seniors - $275

**Some dog breeds require additional vetting which leads to an adoption fee to not adhere to the pricing guideline above. There are many circumstances where an adoptable pet has an adoption fee that varies from above schedule due to their vetting needs while in our foster care.

Cats & Kittens - $150

**Treasured Animal Rescue highly recommends adopting kittens in pairs, to avoid any potential behavioral issues like biting, scratching and not using the litter box. Also, adopting 2 kittens lessens stress on the tiny kitten which provides a healthier transition. **

Go meet their pets

All our Treasured Gems are located in our foster homes. The location is noted in their individual profiles. We do not have a facility or shelter for meetings. Treasured Animal Rescue is not able to adopt out of the State of Illinois. Puppy/kitten adoptions must be close to our current Vet Clinics due to their spay/neutering. A Volunteer can advise of our Vet Clinic locations.

In each of our foster pets profiles it will state if they are good with dogs, cats or children. Please note what we experience in our foster home may differ completely in a potential Adopters homes. A TAR foster parent can give much insight on their foster pet as they live in their home just like their own pets.

More about this rescue

Treasured Animal Rescue is a 100% foster based, non-profit animal rescue dedicated to help animals that face a homeless situation for no fault of their own. Animals that are placed in high-kill shelters, abandoned or are given up by their owners; Treasured Animal Rescue seeks out these animals and places them in our dedicated, loving foster homes. We provide these unfortunate souls vet care while our Volunteers diligently search for their forever homes.

Treasured Animal Rescue is a “no-kill” Rescue and there are no limits to any breed, age or an animal’s health limitations. When an animal is in need of rescue; Treasured Animal Rescue is there to assist an animal in need or when a home owner faces the dilemma of giving up their beloved pet.

As our dedicated Volunteers search the endless paths at the shelters seeing the animals marked “URGENT”, some may see sadness, despair and hopelessness but Treasured Animal Rescue sees a “Diamond Soul”. We see an unfortunate soul that deserves a loving home and we will give that poor animal every opportunity to reach that destiny.

All animals deserve a loving home. We believe that underneath the sadness, despair and hopelessness; every animal has a "Diamond Soul" that is pure, beautiful and has an inward treasure. Treasured Animal Rescue helps all animals show the world the brilliance that shines from their loving souls.
