My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rudy was adopted when just a little puppy. He was bouncy and happy and excited to have a home. Five years later, his owner accepted a job traveling and said that she could no longer care for Rudy. For Rudy’s sake, we’re glad that she lived up to Rudy’s contract and returned him to us. We’re glad to have Rudy back, but sad that what he thought was his furever home…wasn’t.
In these situations, we’ve learned that there is a better home for Rudy. And even if it takes some time we’ll find the pawfect family for him. Rudy, for his part, seems just fine to be back and is actually showing he’s very happy. He gets a lot of attention from our staff and volunteers, which he loves. He goes on lots of walks and gets to play in the yard. He sees other friendly dogs and feels comforted. He is cat friendly. He loves his comfy blankets and he never turns down a yummy meal. His tail wags endlessly and he’s eager to feel wanted.
Rudy is a golden retriever mix. He’s five years old. He is a friendly, calm, sweet, outgoing, and affectionate boy. He can be a little shy at first meeting, to be expected since all he’s known is living in a home, but he warms up quickly. His coat is soft and silky and he loves having his ears and back scratched. He lives for hooman contact. He is an easy-going leash walker. He rides well in a car. And he’s house-trained!
If looking to welcome a wonderful and loving companion to your heart and home, without having to go through the puppy stages, Rudy has it all. This handsome boy is ready to walk into your life and live happily ever after. Love lives at our shelter and is just waiting to come home.
If interested in Rudy, please submit an application online at: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/dog-adoption-application
Once an application is submitted, you will receive an email saying your application has been successfully submitted. If you don’t receive this email within 24 hours, please check to make sure all application fields were completed or please email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with a current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://smithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals.
Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also rescued from local and area Animal Controls. The facility usually operates at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. We’re located in the North Georgia mountains in Sautee Nachoochee.
