My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A fenced-in yard and a home visit are required to be considered as a candidate for YURI/PANUT's adoption. Yuri/Peanut is a 1 y+ old female Chihuahua Mix rescued from a difficult situation. She is sweet, engaging, and loving. Yuri/Peanut loves to be cuddled and enjoys sleeping tightly with her human. She interacts well with other dogs once she knows them and has taught herself how to use a doggie door. Yuri/Peanut is fully vetted, current on shots, spayed and microchipped.

We evaluate two applicants at a time. If neither proves to be a good fit, we move on to the second set of 2 applicants. Each potential adopter is asked to complete a PRE-ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE. Following receipt and evaluation of this document we proceed to schedule a “meet & greet”.  We travel up to 1 hour from our location to bring the pet to your home which allows you to see him/her in a secure environment without external distractions. It also allows us to observe the environment where the dog/cat will live and make sure that it provides all the required security to prevent as much as possible any accident. For residents residing outside of our travel time, we have now also instituted what we call "virtual home visits". Using technology for "good", we visit your household using a free apps called Google Meet and Zoom.. You can install it for free on your smartphone and will allow us to have a "face-to-face" conversation as well as it will allow us to take a peek at your yard. This also allows you to see the dog you are interested in, and us to evaluate your fenced-in yard.

After the meet and greet if you are still interested in our companion dog or cat, and If we deem the pet to be a good fit for you, and you anfd your family for him, we will proceed to complete the formal ADOPTION CONTRACT and collect the total adoption fee of $275.00 for dogs and $90.00 for cats.

We remind every potential adopter that even under the best circumstance any animal brought into the house involves a financial investment. They need to be fed, provided with monthly flea preventatives and any other recommended medication, once a year they need to see a veterinarian for evaluation, as well as for the administration of any required vaccination. As with humans, animals do get sick and may require to see a veterinarian, it is strongly recommended that you establish an emergency fund for these occasions and/or secure PET INSURANCE to address those extraordinary circumstances.

We ask all of our potential adopters to read our adoption contract beforehand and welcome as many questions as you may have after reading it.

More about this shelter

You Can Make A Difference, Inc. is the final phase in a journey that began many years ago. After years of aiding other organizations to achieve the goal of preventing animal abuse we decided to create our own organization.

It was the realization that only if we stop the birth of unwanted animals that the vicious cycle of animal neglect, abuse and abandoned would eventually be stopped that moved us to establish the organization.

We hope that together we can make a difference in the lives of many animals while at the same time educate others in responsible pet parenting. It is time for all who have been touched by the unconditional love that animals can provide to start to "pay forward."

Our organization is geared to serve residents in Gadsden County, Florida. Gadsden County is the second poorest county in the state of Florida. There is no animal shelter in the county, only a high kill facility.
