My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Sampson and I'm an adorable blonde fluffball! I am a 9 pound male Pomeranian. I am bouncy and prance like your typical Pom. I love being pet and will approach you with my head bowed. I am affecionate as long as you don't make any sudden or quick moves. Those frighten me. I'm very playful, and try to engage my foster to 'get me'. I am crate trained, although I don't like the crate. I'll complain then eventually settle down. I've been around cats and just ignore them. I get along fine with my foster doggie siblings but can annoy them sometimes as I was never taught how to act around other dogs. Kids are too scary for me. I no longer have any teeth after my dental cleaning but I eat soaked kibble like a champ. I will require regular grooming to keep my gorgeous Pom coat mat-free. I am mostly house trained, but I like to mark so I wear a belly band while indoors. When I want your attention, I'll sit on my behind and wave my 2 front paws. It is super cute, if I do say so myself.

Dogs are not placed on a first-come first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal, applications may take up to 48 hours to complete. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Sampson's adoption fee is $200. If you are interested in adopting Sampson, or another CAWS animal, please fill out an application here: http://caws.org/adoption-application. Additional adoption info

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.

Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.

More about this rescue

Founded in 1992 the Community Animal Welfare Society ( CAWS) is one of the oldest no-kill animal rescues in Utah. Over the last 20 years CAWS, our fosters and supporters have saved thousands of lives including over 600 last this year.
