My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bruno is heartbroken. He suddenly lost his owner in an unexpected accident. He was a loved house dog one day and trying to figure out what happened the next. So many people don't prepare for this moment because it seems so far away. For Bruno he knows he was loved and will be loved again in a home soon enough. For now, he is going to get lots of love and attention from the volunteers and staff here at the shelter. He is a bit unsure of his surrounding and needs a bit of time to adjust as he is getting used to a new routine. We hope once he is back into a home, he will settle back into trusting his surroundings and the people in it and get back to his old self. He weighed 57 pounds at intake. He does not seem to react to cats or dogs. All things new need to go slowly for him as he is slow to warm up to change. He has been through so much.

Here are some comments from his favorite volunteer Cheryl:
"If you get a chance to walk sweet Bruno - He's the guy at the end of A Row who seems very barky when you walk by - but is so very sweet when he gets out of his kennel....He usually needs to do his business right away - and every time I've walked him he can't even make it to the gate before peeing. After he does his business, he usually walks good with breaks for belly rubs and treats, and whenever we head back in, he runs to go back (not sure why, b/c he is obviously stressed to be in the kennel). Anyways - He is so smart. His former owner obviously taught him stuff. He knows "sit" and "down", and when you tell him "down" - he gets down, does an "army crawl", and then rolls over and shows you his belly for rubs. It's the most adorable thing. Love this guy and hope he isn't with us for long...."

Bruno's Mom and her family loved Bruno very much, they were all heartbroken and in tears to give him up. We are sure there is a loving person out there for Bruno so that this tragic story can have a happy ending. And if you weren't already crying- the family has already paid the adoption fee to ensure he gets a good home. Some stories are very sad to tell, but the happy endings keep us going. Let's get Bruno his. ♥️

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Wicomico County was started in 1968 by a group of people who wanted to help improve the lives of animals. We have come a long way in our 40+ years! We have a staff dedicated to making sure the animals that come to our doors are loved and protected as they wait for their forever home. Not only are our animals vaccinated, wormed and given flea preventative, we can treat animals that come to us with mange, ringworm, heartworm and pay for animals to be seen by an outside vet should there be a need. We have an on-site spay/neuter clinic that not only is used for our animals but we also offer low cost spay/neuter for animals of the public. We provide emergency boarding for victims of domestic abuse, fire, and medical emergencies. We also have the capability to set up an off-site emergency shelter for people evacuated from their homes. In addition, we have an education program to help teach kids about being a responsible pet guardian. We work with a wide range of rescue groups and our animals have been transported from our mid-Atlantic area throughout the North Eastern United States. Our shelter is an open admission shelter and we will take in approximately 3500 animals this year. We do what we do because of our love for animals and our desire to make a difference in their lives every single day.
