My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Walter is looking for his forever home. His estimated DOB is 8/21. He weighs 50 lbs and came to the shelter as a stray in February of 2023. He decided quickly that shelter and kennel life was not for him. Walter was not a fan of being confined in his kennel and being left alone for long periods of time causing him a great deal of distress. So, Walter began refusing to return to his space after being let out. He began to express his very strong disapproval of being confined by becoming vocal and mouthy with the staff and volunteers.

We quickly partnered with All Dog training to understand how to best support Walter. With their great work, Walter is a happy and healthy boy who, as it turns out, is as snuggly, as he is cute, when outside the shelter. While he continues to work on some minor issues, it is clear that he would make a great family pet as he adores people and is good with kids. Walter likes to play, but doesn't require much exercise.

Walter would be happy as the only dog, but does exist with with a pack of dogs at All Dog Obedience. He does best with calm female dogs or calm male dogs who have been altered. Walter will play with companion dogs, but for the most part, he is generally happy to just co-exist with them. Walter has also been around cats while in the care of All Dog Obedience and is fine with felines.

Walter doesn't really shed. With his adorable, howl barking thing, Walter is suspected to have some hound in him. He is housetrained however, on rare occasions, he will attempt to mark his territory if he is sharing a space with other dogs who engage in that same behavior. Walter is crate trained now. He kennels without a fuss though he does better with an open area designated as his space.

During his lengthy stay at All Dog Obedience, he now knows lots of commands to include: come, sit, down, leave it, easy, quiet, catch, focus, be nice, get your toy, kennel, and outside.

We think he is a very smart boy who has not met his people. We hope someone, somewhere, will read this story and find room in their hearts for this boy. Walter really is a wonderfully, quicky, yet amazing old soul. Preferably, we would love to see him go into a foster to adopt situation where he can settle in slowly and make sure he is a good fit with his family. Please share broadly for this boy to find his perfect family
