This handsome fellow is Riley. He’s a sweet boy and has a gorgeous coat that shines in the sun. He loves to play - chase and fetch are his favorites! Evening snuggles on the couch are high on his list too, and he’ll sprawl in your lap for a nice belly rub. He’s always up for a car ride or a hike (preferably both!) Riley’s a smart cookie and knows all his commands and listens well. And he gets a gold star for his excellent house manners, so no need for a crate for this pup. Riley was just a baby when he was adopted from Save A Dog in 2020. Clearly he was adored and pampered by his people, but sadly lost his home due to divorce. He really wants to bond with a new person or two and call them all his own. He can be nervous meeting new folks, but will warm up with the help of a few tasty treats. Once he’s comfortable, he loves hugs and will lean his full weight against you trusting that you’ll hold him up! He’s calm and friendly meeting other dogs, and happy to play. Kitties are new to him, but he’s doing well with the felines in his foster home. Since he wasn’t raised around kiddos, an adult home is recommended for him. Adoption fee is from $350-375 for spayed or neutered adults and $425-450 for puppies with a $50 rebate when your pup is old enough to be altered. We prefer an application prior to inviting you to come meet the dogs, but we have drop in hours during the weekend as posted on our Web site. We believe in making a match based on your application and interaction with the dog or pup and it helps if all decision makers come to the appointment to meet the dog. Our process is that once you have met the dog and both parties feel it is a good match, then you may leave a $50 deposit to hold the dog for 24 hours while we check your references and/or conduct a home visit. The deposit is nonrefundable. If you change your mind, it is used as a donation. If you continue with the adoption, the fee is deducted from your total adoption fee. Save A Dog is a humane society whose primary focus is rescuing and rehoming abandoned dogs. We began in 1999 as an all-breed, all-volunteer dog rescue group and ran the operation out of our founder's home for nine years. Now we have a lovely facility and kennel which we have rented since 2008 and recently purchased. We are in Sudbury, Mass. Save A Dog is a privately funded 501(c)3 organization. Our rescued dogs are up to date on the core vaccines and the adult dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. We do not spay and neuter puppies as it has been proven that puppies need hormones for proper bone development. As well, they have developing immune systems and need to have their puppy vaccines and rabies underway before opening them up to surgery. We use a holistic protocol in caring for our rescued dogs and we have found that we are able to bring the dogs to optimal health without all the conventional pharmaceuticals that most shelters use. Save A Dog provides supplements and a healthy diet to boost the rescued dogsÕ immune systems. The new arrivals residing at the kennel listen to Òanimal healingÓ music during their stay and they also benefit from aromatherapy. Our founder, Shirley Moore, has studied homeopathy for a number of years and provides homeopathic remedies to dogs who have minor medical issues, and with good results. This saves the shelter in extraneous medical costs as do our traveling, visiting veterinarians. We use two low cost spay clinics, one at Tufts and the other at the Sterling Animal Shelter.
Save A Dog maintains an ID system on all adopted dogs with a database of adopter information. This makes it easy to reunite the dogs with their adopters should they become lost. We have a solid return policy so that any dog adopted through Save A Dog will not end up in danger of being euthanized again. Every dog we rescue is celebrated and doted on by our dog-loving volunteers. We have a training program for adopters as well as newsletter-follow-ups with advice on training, health, and places to go with your dog. Many of our adopters have returned for a second dog and we have a very strong showing at our alumni events as well.
