My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

PLEASE NOTE: GPMR communicates primarily by email.  If you have any questions regarding one of our Mastiffs, please read their bio and if you still have questions - drop us an email at GPMastiffRescue@gmail.com.  If you have questions about our adoption procedures, please go to our page called 'Adoption Info.'  We answer email inquiries daily.

GPMR does not have a shelter. All of our dogs are kept in loving foster homes. We must have a completed adoption application on file before meeting any of our mastiffs.

GPMR adopts to the states of Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana and parts of Colorado.
!!!Any mastiffs being adopted out of the state of Oklahoma require a health certificate to be paid for by the adopter!!!

Meet Luke! This sweet boy found himself in a shelter near Houston TX. When no owner was located or came forward, he was transferred to GPMR.

Luke is living the best life in his new foster home! His foster mom says sometimes he is so cute that it makes her eyes water. But his salty face and droopy jowls really do work in his favor. He might look old, but  he's actually only a little bit over 4yrs old. He appears to have lived a hard live previously and his body shows it. So, please know that he's in his absolute prime despite the greys! He doesn't dig or destroy anything. He is fed separately but that’s because our homes takes the safest measures when they are not the only furry one around here. When his foster mom has taken food, or my bones just to safely “test” – it didn’t phase him one bit. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body.

Luke is wonderfully housetrained! He enjoys canine companions, but doesn't quite play, although watching others play make him happy. He wiggles his booty and wags his tail just being happy that my furry friends are happy. He really thinks he wants to play, but still needs to gain some pounds and TLC with my body. My foster mom has been doing her best with helping get all the foods and supplements. So maybe in the future, he may be ready to do some zooms. He's getting used to his foster cat sibling, at first he would get excited when he saw her, but now he just lays down after he says hello! Luke know sit and shake like the best boy! He is a quiet boy, but in typical Mastiff fashion, sometimes he likes to alert the family of something he sees or hears, but that’s it.

Prepare yourself with the cuteness. Luke always has a stuffy toy in his mouth when someone greets him OR if he is just so happy. He will go grab one – sometimes even two! – to parade around with because he is just SO happy to be loved. He even brings them to his vet visits.

One little thing to keep in mind, like most of the dogs that are found as a stray down south, he is heartworm positive (HW+). BUT we have already started treatment, and he takes his medicine like an absolute champ. So if he sounds like a good fella that would fit into your home, please reach out to our rescue, ask any questions, and apply online. He is so ready and deserving of FINALLY having a loving home.

Luke is being fostered near Houston, TX.

More about this rescue

Welcome to the Great Plains Mastiff Rescue Foundation Website! Great Plains Mastiff Rescue is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization made up of volunteers dedicated to saving Mastiffs in need. Our goal is to find a forever home and family for every mastiff that we rescue. We health check each mastiff that comes into our rescue program. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, testing for worms and parasites and treatment, heartworm testing and treatment, and microchipping. Mission Statement: This Foundation aims to further the prevention of cruelty to animals with emphasis on the recovery of pets from life termination procedures and the ultimate adoption of such animals by the private sector, as well as education on how to prevent the overpopulation and unnecessary killing of animals.
