My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tommy, an elder black & tan dachshund, once shared his home with his sibling until their pet parent passed away. Despite his age, he remains youthful and in excellent health. Tommy embodies the term "Velcro dog," always preferring to be by your side whether you're cooking, watching TV, gardening, or strolling. He's diligently working on perfecting his house manners, alerting when he needs to go outside. While he generally gets along with cats, his reaction depends on the individual feline. His foster home has two senior cats, one blind and one deaf; he is getting along with them fine but they are dog friendly kitties. Tommy possesses a natural dachshund prey instinct, making him curious about anything that moves or reacts. He's sociable with other dog-friendly canines and enjoys playful interactions. He has another dog in the house he likes to play with. Tommy delights in carrying around a soft toy and has a hearty appetite. He loves his treats! Tommy, a seasoned gentleman, with sweet and affectionate personality seeks a new home where he can shower affection on his human companion and remain by their side.

Medical: Tommy has chronic dryness in one eye and will require a very inexpensive eye drop given twice day; otherwise he is in excellent health for a senior.

Tommy is a Male Dachshund that we estimate to be born around 2/2/2010 and weighs 17.6 lbs.

More about this rescue

K-9 Angels Rescue is an all-volunteer, all-breed canine rescue organization established in February 2012.

We are a rescue group for shelter dogs who run out of time. In other words, we are not a shelter, have no permanent facilities, and are not equipped to take in dogs from the public. We select dogs from the greater Houston "kill" animal control facilities who would not have made it out alive. (Don't worry! If you need help rehoming a dog, there are other non-profit groups who can assist you.)

No one involved in K-9 Angels receives ANY compensation. Our volunteers are compassionate animal welfare advocates who contribute their time, skills, and finances to shelter homeless dogs in Houston. To save the lives of the abandoned, abused, and stray dogs who end up in Houston's animal control facilities, K-9 Angels relies completely on adoption fees, donations, and our amazing volunteers.

K-9 Angels covers ALL costs for dogs currently in the program. During intake, every dog gets a microchip and is spayed or neutered (if old enough for the procedure). If the dog being adopted is not already altered at the time of their adoption, the dog will be altered within 2 weeks of adoption at our vet at our cost, with the exception of puppies which will be altered as soon as the puppy is ready. We fund all medical care necessary, even if we have to raise extra Helping Paw funds for special cases! From the time they enter the program to the time they graduate, K-9 Angels dogs are kept up-to-date on all vaccines (DHPP, bordetella, rabies) as well as heartworm and flea prevention.

We commit to K-9 Angels dogs until they are adopted.
Our volunteer foster homes patiently provide safety, love, and integration into a household environment - a key to successful adoptions. The biographies, pictures, and even videos from foster homes are important "pup-licilty" for our dogs! We are always in need of additional foster homes.

Our goal is a "fur-ever" home! We take every precaution not to contribute to the dog overpopulation problem here in Houston. Applications are processed according to our adoption policies to insure the best situation for our dogs and the families who adopt them.
