My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you're having a bad day, five minutes with Libby will change that. Her tail doesn't stop wagging and she seems to have a permanent smile. She was a happy, active girl when brought to a shelter as a stray, but she became sad when no one claimed her. Her smile is back because she loves being part of a family. Since Libby came to us the week of Independence Day, we named her Liberty -- but she prefers the more casual Libby. We're still getting to know Libby, but she has already shared much of her sweet personality.

She is submissive with people, always rolling over for a tummy tickle when you pet her. She is happy to see anyone who has come into the house. She is getting along well with her two Springer foster sisters. Since she is submissive, she would probably do well in a home with another dog but would be equally happy as an only dog. Libby's greatest desire is to be with people. She is enjoying snoozes in the dog beds throughout the house. Libby has also made herself at home several times in a chair in the den, so we are working on the Off command. She does like to jump on you for attention, so she may not be good with toddlers that she could potentially knock down. Her personality is so laid back, however, that she'd fit in almost anywhere.

The vet estimates her to be four to five years old. She appears to be totally housebroken, as she hasn't had any accidents. We are crating Libby at night and when we leave the house. She is the best foster we have ever had in the crate. She goes in without a peep and doesn't stir until morning. If all continues to go well, she'll soon have free run of the house.

Libby dances at the door when she knows we are going for a walk. The vet recommends lots of walks to help her shed the ten to twelve pounds that she needs to lose. Her ideal weight will be around thirty-two to thirty-four pounds. She is on a low-cal food and we are trying to get her outside often to keep her activity level up. She loves to chase the squirrels out of her fenced yard. Libby is very alert and enjoys exploring the yard and her new neighborhood when we walk.

You will notice in Libby's photos that her front right leg has a bend to it. Her vet believes it is most likely a birth defect that cannot be corrected. While Libby would not make a good jogging or hunting partner due to it, there really aren't any other restrictions. She has no idea her leg is different and moves with ease on it since it is all she has ever known. She loves running in her yard and would make an excellent walking companion. However, you might have to get used to people stopping you on your walks to compliment you on what a cute and sweet girl Libby is. She would really enjoy it if you could enroll her in an obedience class to help with her commands, as she really wants to please and would love the extra time with her people.

Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Libby.
