My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

* ADOPTION FEE WAIVED TO HELP MEEKA FIND A GOOD HOME *

Meeka had been at Clackamas County Dog Services for months healing from substantial neglect. Yet her spirit never dwindled! Our volunteers also volunteer at the shelter walking dogs and walked Meeka for months until we finally decided to spring her loose and bring her into our program.

- Meeka is an old soul with a little spice!

- 7 years old and 60lbs

- Should be the only dog in her future home. She tends to hover over other dogs and get pushy with them which makes them uncomfortable and they correct her. She takes corrections well and has not fought back. She is not reactive to other dogs on leash and could go on walks with other dogs with no problem. We just feel she is lacking some awareness of social cues with other dogs and she doesn't like sharing her ball with other dogs so best to be the only dog in the home. She has never injured our fought another dog to our knowledge.

- There *has* to be some herding breed in there, this lady has a reasonable ball obsession and smarts that matches those breeds.

- Total ball dog and LOVES to fetch as many times as you'll throw it. BONUS: she brings the ball back to your feet!

- Meeka is cat workable and did well on the cat test. She was able to be close, sniff and interact with the cat without showing prey drive. She would much rather focus on humans with treats and is easily redirectable with treats. We do always recommend slow introductions with cats and dogs over a period of time and supervision to ensure success.

- Kids ages 12+ if there are kids in the home. Meeka prefers a calmer home.

- Excellent in the car, loads up and doesn't get car sick

- Potty trained

- Can be mellow and chill in the house or be active and fun outside for a game of fetch

- Does well home alone uncrated and just sleeps. She has not been destructive when left home alone while her foster family is away.

- Loves her walks but can also be a happy homebody. She could be totally content for someone to just throw her ball a few times each day for her exercise.

- A fan of hers once described Meeka, "She looks like she's had such a rough go, but she also looks like she has all the answers to the universe. What a wonderful, pant-less gem."

- Meeka's fur may never grow back fully but she has made excellent progress and is getting fluffier by the day. Her special need is that she will need a Cytopoint injection possibly every 2 months to maintain the health of her skin. The injection is approximately $98 at our vet. She also is on a kibble diet that is fish based. We think she's absolutely gorgeous even with her eclectic bare patches!

Meeka is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested negative, dewormed, and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Her adoption includes a free wellness exam at one of our partner vet clinics in Oregon City, Milwaukie, Portland or Tualatin.

Adoption fee waived to help Meeka find a loving home.

Go meet their pets

All of our dogs are in foster homes that help them to learn to be good house guests. Our foster dogs thrive in a home environment rather than a scary shelter where they would become stressed. Plus we gain lots of good information about the dog's personalities in a foster home setting.

All foster homes are located within 45 minutes of Portland, Oregon. Once we receive your adoption application and chat with you, we will provide you the foster home's contact information that has the dog you're interested in meeting.
