My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello! I'm Hank, your new best buddy!

Affectionately nicknamed 'Hanky-Panky' by my volunteer friends for my mischievous ''smiles'', extroverted personality, and enthusiastic tail wags, I'm Love, Affection and Playfulness bundled into a cute, furry package.

The first things you'll notice about me are my soft blond coat, those stunningly intelligent eyes, and my cute floppy ears that can't seem to decide which way they wanna go. LoL!

My volunteer buddies tell me I'm also quite clever and am very eager to please. One of my favorite things to do is running around the yard fetching balls and playing with toys. But once I'm done with my exercise, I'm quite content to hang out in the volunteers' office and get loved and adored on by my human fans.

I do tend to "hold it'' in my kennel - so my volunteer friends think I may be house-trained, and I already know how to 'Sit', 'Stay' and 'Come' when asked to. I absolutely love to train with treats and am always up for learning new things if you are willing to teach me. And I'm very gentle while taking treats.

While I've made a lot of progress when I see other dogs at the shelter, I can be selective when it comes to making doggo friends. So, if you have a fur baby at home, please bring them over for a meet-and-greet with me to see if I'd make a pawsome brother.

With my many endearingly enthusiastic qualities, I'll make a wonderful and active companion (maybe a running partner...hint, hint) for the right humans, but I may not be a good fit for first time dog owners or families with young children.

So, what do you think? Have I impressed you yet? If you're seeking a fun, active and affectionate furry friend to join you on your walks, cozy up with you on those lazy afternoons, and share in your life's adventures, I'm your boy! Don't wait too long to come see me!

Hank is a male mixed breed dog (possibly a Shepherd type mix), who currently weighs 61 lbs. He was brought to our shelter on 2/17/24 after being found in unincorporated Hayward. He hasn't been reclaimed by his previous person, so he's now looking for a new home! He has been vaccinated, neutered, and micro-chipped.

Other Policies:

*All dogs/puppies and cats/kittens must be altered (spayed or neutered) before the pet can go home with you. If the pet that you adopt is not yet altered, we will schedule your new pet an appointment at the time of adoption for it to be altered at the neighboring spay/neuter clinic. This means that not all pets adopted will get to go home the same day.

*For prospective dog adoptions where there is already an existing dog or dogs in the home, there will need to be a mandatory dog introduction before we can proceed with the adoption. If you are adopting a dog, and have a cat at home, please make staff aware of this prior to adoption.

*Most of our pets come to us as strays, therefore we are unable to guarantee the health, temperament, or age of any adopted pet. Pets are adopted "as is."

*Payment methods that we accept are exact change cash, money order, or check with i.d. and current address imprinted on the check. We do not accept credit or debit cards, and cannot accept business checks or out of state checks. If you are paying by cash, we are not able to make change.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

All adoptions take place in person at the East County Animal Shelter. Our address is 4595 Gleason Drive, Dublin, CA 94568. Our phone number is 925-803-7040. We are open seven days a week (excluding county holidays) from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm. Please arrive early enough to give yourself time to get acquainted with your prospective new pet before we can begin the adoption paperwork.

Please note: We do not post pets as available for adoption until their stray hold period has ended. Because of this, there are always more pets available for viewing at the shelter than are currently listed online. All pets listed online have fulfilled their legal stray hold and are now available for adoption.
