Sunshine was found in an abandoned building in NYC by officers with 2 very young puppies. Litters are usually larger than 2, but we have no idea what happened to the other babies.
She was taken to the Animal Care Center of NYC of Manhattan, where she sat for three weeks with her babies. That's how bad things are in rescue right now - a mama and her little puppies hardly ever spend that long in shelters, at least in the Northern US.
Through all of this, she has been the best mom. She doesn't mind when her pups eat out of her bowl with her and will play with toys with them. She'ss house trained and a happy girl! We think she'll be okay with other dogs, but cats are a hard no.
Her age guestimate is all over the place; some places say 4, some 5, some 6...who knows.
She still needs to be spayed but can be adopted out, and her new family can drop her off at her appointment at the Lowville Countryside Clinic (we cover the cost of the spay.)
The adoption application is at northcountrypetadoption.org

More about this rescue
We are a volunteer-run, 501(c)3 foster-based rescue, which means we do not have a central building. Our rescue registration number with the State of NY is RR131. For logistical reasons, all of our foster homes are in Lewis and Jefferson Counties. If there is an animal you are interested in meeting, we ask you to first fill out the adoption application, which can be found in the main menu. You do not need to live in Lewis or Jefferson county to adopt; we do adopt out of state (and to Canada as well!)
