My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.

Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit.

Meet Lazlo!

Lazlo is a 10-year-old (best guess), 10 lb, mixed mystery breed who was found as a stray. He was badly matted and had a painful mouth when he came into our care.

In order to make him comfortable, Lazlo required a sedated shave. He already had 26 missing teeth, and our vet removed the last 16 from his badly infected gums. Lazlo also tested positive for Lyme disease. That is a lot of pain for one small pupper, but he handled it all like a champ. After two more weeks on his antibiotics, Lazlo will not require medications going forward. He has good vision and hearing, is 99% house trained (he goes outside and will also use pee pads), and walks well on a leash. Lazlo will go up stairs but has not quite figured out how to go down them yet. He does fine with cats, but would prefer to be the only dog in the home or with a laid back dog. Due to his lack of teeth, Lazlo will need a diet of soft foods. He can get nervous when hands come at him from above, so his ideal home would be a quieter, adult only one, or one with older children used to handling dogs.

Lazlo’s tail is always wagging and his foster mom describes him as an angel. He doesn’t bark, he sleeps in late, and he loves to be scooped up and cuddled. Lazlo enjoys walks and occasionally running around the yard, but most of the time he wants to snuggle in a dog bed or on someone’s lap. This sweet, gentle pup needs a second chance in life.
