My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Alice! Alice is a charming blend of independence and affection. She's easy-going and quickly warms up to new people, eagerly seeking out affection and attention. She's quite curious and intelligent, observing her surroundings with keen interest. She's independent but appreciates companionship and will happily curl up on or under blankets, enjoying moments of quiet solitude as well as shared space with her humans.

Alice would thrive in a calm and nurturing environment, whether it's with a smaller family or a larger one with both adults and children. She's adaptable to various living situations but would particularly enjoy a home where she can have plenty of cozy spots to lounge, such as window ledges or cat trees. Alice appreciates human company and would relish spending time with her family, whether it's cuddling in bed or simply following them around the house.

Alice's favorite pastimes include greeting her humans at the door, rubbing against their legs, and receiving chin scratches. She's an affectionate soul who enjoys being part of her family's daily routines, whether it's helping with chores or simply lounging in shared spaces. With her sweet nature and gentle disposition, Alice would make a wonderful addition to any loving home.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters are carefully screened to ensure we find the right forever home for the dogs and cats we rescue. Since animals live in foster homes, we get to know their personality and temperament. The adoption process allows us to learn about you, so that we can help find the perfect match for your home.

ADOPTION PROCESS

After finding a cat or dog that you are interested in, you'll need to complete an adoption application either online (https://henricohumane.org) or at an adoption stand. An adoption coordinator will review your application to ensure your situation matches the needs of the animal you're interested in. If completing an application online, please note, every question must be answered on the application for it to be reviewed by an adoption coordinator. As part of the review process, we'll request references. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, it may take up to 48 hours for an adoption coordinator to contact you.

ADOPTION FEES

$100 for a cat or kitten
$150 for an adult dog
$200 for a puppy (under 1 year of age)

The adoption fee covers the cost of shots, spay/neuter, microchipping and worm/flea treatments.

Adoption stands are held on Saturdays at Petco Short Pump (Next to Trader Joe's) minus major holiday weekends. Adoption stands are from 11-2 but please see our stand schedule for up to date information. (https://henricohumane.org/events/).

Please note that not all animals come to stand so if you are intersted in a specific animal, please email dogs@henricohumane.org or cats@henricohumane.org on the Friday prior to stand. Thank you!

More about this rescue

Henrico Humane Society is an all-volunteer, foster-based,
non-profit organization that rescues dogs and cats from
across Central Virginia and places them in loving, forever
homes.

HHS has saved hundreds of animals each year since
1991. Many of the dogs and cats we rescue come from
shelters in rural areas where they have fewer adoption
opportunities. The majority of the animals in our care live
with foster parents until they find a permanent home.

We don't have a shelter and most of our animals live in foster homes until they're adopted, which allows us to get to know their personality and temperament. Applicants are carefully screened to ensure we find the right forever home for the dogs and cats we rescue. Our adoption process allows us to learn about potential adopters so we can help find the perfect matcher their home.
