THE UNLIKELY DUO: 'Boo' the Shar Pei and 'Pickle's the Flat Coated Retriever!
These two dogs found each other in the unlikeliest of places-a shelter. They formed an inseparable bond from the moment they met becoming BFF's.

Pickles has had a tough start to life with a background of uncertainty and insecurity. Having lived in an outdoor pit of his own filth, he was never socialized with humans and therefore struggled with confidence and trust.
Staff have been working patiently and tirelessly on developing his confidence around new people and experiences and knew he needed someone patient and understanding to help him blossom. That someone turned out to be Boo. Her playful antics and boundless energy brought joy not only to Pickles but also the staff and volunteers who witnessed their friendship unfold. Whether they were engaged in a game of chase or simply chilling together, their presence was a source of entertainment.

Boo has a big, quirky personality in a small package. Boo arrived with a severe skin condition that is being managed through diet and baths and will likely need to be continued for the rest of her life. Boo is usually quite confident but in certain situations, she can get a little nervous. She knows when to seek out a quiet spot if she needs a break. Neither dog would be suitable for young children.

Pickles is still learning to trust people but has been accepting and seeking out pets. Learning to walk on a leash is still something that will have to be worked on. We have been introducing a harness to him and he has shown us just how much he has progressed.
Pickles loves toys, especially squeaky toys, and can be very playful! He is very silly and loves to play with his shelter bestie, Boo. Each and everyday he gets a little braver and his personality shines. He is a retriever after all and has that silly personality where everything should go in his mouth. Toys, blankets the occasional broom lol!

Ideally, Pickles and Boo would be adopted together. Boo has really shown Pickles how to be a dog and that it is okay to trust people. The two of them have become very close and spend their days by each other's side. We recognize this is a big ask due to their different needs, but we think a home together would be what is best for both of them.
