My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello my name is, Rupawl!

I previously came from a home with a lot of other cats. So I'm very familiar with living among other felines. I am quite outgoing but can be nervous in new environments and will take a bit of time to adjust. I love treats and neck scratches. I can still be unsure at times and am looking for a home with cat experience to help increase my confidence. Once I feel comfortable, you will know it because I'll be chatting with you to get some love and attention!

MY IDEAL HOME INVOLVES...
CHILDREN: No, I would do best in an adult-only home.
OTHER CATS: Yes, I have lived with other cats before and could do so again with a gradual introduction!
DOGS: I could potentially live with a calm cat-savvy dog after a proper introduction.
FIRST-TIME CAT OWNERS: No, I am looking for someone with cat experience who can read my body language and know when I am feeling unsure.

SOME OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME...
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium
AM I ON A PRESCRIPTION DIET? No.

Additional adoption info

Contactless Adoptions are here and going well!

1) View the pets below by clicking on their name. Please ensure you read their adorable description and all their important details.

2) Choose the pet that you feel would be a good match for your home.

3) Fill out an Expression of Interest Form (EOI) below, and email adoptions@guelphhumane.ca. Please remember that an animal may receive many applications. If this pet doesn’t work out, we will try to match you with another amazing pet.

4) Our team will reach out to you to discuss the next steps, including setting up a virtual adoption meeting via Zoom or other video conferencing. This is a great opportunity for us to assess if the pet is a perfect match for your home/family. These meetings can be scheduled 7 days a week during shelter operation hours.

5) If everything goes well, we will set-up a pick-up time and your new pet gets to come home!

If you have any questions regarding the contactless adoption process please call 519-824-3091. For our adoption fees (and what is included), please visit our website at https://guelphhumane.ca/adopt/adoption-fees/.

Go meet their pets

Our building is small but mighty. Our staff have introduced creative ways to continue our important work while maintaining appropriate social distancing in accordance with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph (WDG) Public Health standards as a result of COVID-19.

At this time, we are unable to welcome more people into the building outside our staffing needs. We unfortunately cannot properly socially distance with a higher building occupancy. We thank you for your understanding and support.

More about this shelter

For 125 years, the Guelph Humane Society has been dedicated to protecting and caring for the many animals with whom we share our community and our lives, and to fostering the important bonds with animals that enrich us as individuals, families and communities. Founded in 1893, the Guelph Humane Society provides care and shelter for approximately 3,000 homeless, stray, injured, orphaned, abandoned and abused animals each year, throughout Guelph and Wellington County.

Our programs are delivered by an enthusiastic team of staff with many years of experience in animal care and welfare. In addition to paid staff, we are lucky to have nearly 300 active volunteers, who provide thousands of hours of service each year and generously share their skills and ideas with the humane society.

The Guelph Humane Society has a strong working relationship with local, provincial, and national animal welfare organizations; local school boards; the City of Guelph; Township of Centre Wellington; Township of Guelph-Eramosa; local veterinarians; the Ontario Veterinary College Health Sciences Centre at the University of Guelph; and Guelph Police Services and the Provincial Crown Attorney’s Office. We are an affiliate society of the Ontario SPCA, and proud member of the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS).

Our organization is guided by a Board of Directors made up of volunteers with a wide range of skills and business experience. The Board also convenes several ad hoc committees, which work to address specific issues. Day-to-day operations of the shelter are managed by the Executive Director and senior staff with the Board’s general guidance.

We are a registered charitable, non-profit organization that does not receive government funding. As such, we depend on your donations and private funding to support our important work. The Guelph Humane Society charitable registration number is 119236305RR0001.
