My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Another year, another amazing Sacramento SPCA Doggy Dash in the books! We’re always honored and grateful to be part of this annual event. Our adoptable pups, including Jouska, were a hit. She enjoyed reuniting with Puck for more play and was super sweet to Archie and Gus Gus, too. A huge heartfelt thank you to our volunteers who dedicated their time and travel to supporting us in spreading shepherd love (and glitter).

This adorable 5-month-old German Shepherd pup is ready to steal your heart with her playful antics and charming personality. She's soft, shy, and tender, and we've loved watching her blossom since she arrived from the scary experience of ending up at the shelter. Jouska beams in play with other dogs and resides with a resident shepherd guiding her in all things dog.

Previously, JoJo lived in a temporary foster home with three resident shepherds and our other adoptable puppy, Ella, along with two kitties, where she sought out snuggles from both the humans and the resident dogs, playing lots and lots. She may be cat workable as she also met the shop kitty at our event at Paws n Play Community Center in Sacramento in early April.

JoJo's love for toys knows no bounds, and she's always up for a good game of fetch. Her favorite pastime, though, is roughhousing with her doggy companions. This activity shows off her playful side and builds lasting friendships.

Jouska has settled into her foster home, where she's thriving in their expert shepherd care. She's been introduced to use the treadmill, getting ready for lots of exercise options as an adult. Potty training and crate training are all dialed in, and she's been awesome in leash work as well. Be sure to check out our YouTube channel for additional videos of Jouska and our other pups that are available for adoption.

If you're looking for a loyal and affectionate companion who adores playtime as much as cuddle time, JoJo might be the perfect match for you. Meet this lovable pup and discover the joy she brings to every moment! Adopt Jouska today and make a forever friend.

As with all of our puppies, please consider applying for Jouska if you have experience with raising shepherds or similar smart working breed dogs. They require physical and mental exercise, structure, training, and extensive environmental exposure to become neutral adult dogs.

Additional adoption info

Since each GSD we rescue has been let down by their previous caregivers, we are committed to ensuring that their second chance is a forever one. Our adoption application allows us to find the best possible match for them and for you.

The decision to adopt a pet is an important one that we take seriously. Please take the time to read the questions and carefully complete the application. Please include full explanations with as much information as possible - this will help us with the review of your application

If renting, your landlord's consent is required to proceed with your application. Our landlord permission form is embedded in the application, and is required before your application can be processed.

As an all-volunteer rescue, we may not respond as quickly as we would like. We appreciate your patience while we work through the adoption process. Our goal is to respond to you within a week of your application.

More about this rescue

ShepHeroes is a foster based non-profit animal rescue organization with a deeply experienced team of volunteers focused on carefully placing German Shepherd Dogs into loving homes that match the dog's temperament, activity level, and needs.

Our dogs receive veterinary care and reside in volunteer foster homes while waiting for loving homes, and are altered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption.

We focus our efforts on sound German Shepherd Dogs who are at risk due to abandonment, neglect, and abuse or significant change in circumstances. For the safety of our volunteers and adopters, we do not accept aggressive dogs into our program.

Our volunteers are heroes! Please join us with your time and talents to lend a hand to help our furry friends. Our needs range from virtual to hands-on tasks.
