Meet Sawyer, a vibrant bundle of energy and enthusiasm ready to bring joy to your life! We welcomed Sawyer into our rescue about a month ago, rescuing him from the Montgomery County Animal Shelter in MD.

Unfortunately, Sawyer had zero training or house manners when he first came into our home and was a bit of a wild child. He has improved immensely with structure and proper exercise, but he will need further training and instruction. However, he is incredibly smart and eager to learn. The saying "A tired dog is a good dog" rings very true for Sawyer, and he will need an active owner to keep up with his energy.

We're currently working on discouraging him from jumping on people. He's a very friendly fellow, exhibiting no aggression towards humans, though he can be reactive around other dogs if not properly introduced.

When Sawyer spots another dog passing by, his excitement peaks, and he can get frustrated if he's unable to greet them. He expresses this frustration vocally and can bark very ludly. Fortunately, he walks well on a leash, especially with the aid of a prong collar and we are able to redirect his attention away.

There are several dogs in our rescue that Sawyer gets along very well with and they play constantly, however if he does not have a good initial introduction to another dog tensions can quickly escalate. It is important to introduce him slowly and have lots of distractions ready, like a squeaky toy or treats.

He's already mastered the "sit" command, and we're working on expanding his repertoire.

Toys are his passion, and he's a champion at chasing them, though retrieving them is still a skill he's mastering.

With his boundless energy and loving personality, Sawyer is searching for a forever home where he'll be cherished and given the love and attention he deserves. Could you be the one to make his dreams come true?

Sawyer is up to to date on his vaccinations, is microchipped and is neutered.

Additional adoption info

Application
First, individuals can review adoptable animals by clicking “Adopt” at the top of the screen. All potential adopters must fill out an adoption application under the same tab. The application includes two non-family references as well as information on the potential adopter’s landlord and designated veterinarian. References will be contacted separately to obtain the requisite information.

Meet and Greet
Once the application and references have been successfully reviewed and approved, a NPAR representative will reach out to the potential adopter to set up a meet and greet with the dog.

Home Visit
The home visit is the final important piece in identifying a safe home for all of our dogs. A NPAR representative will schedule a visit that fits your schedule. We ask that all family members are present.

Contract
The contract can be signed at the conclusion of the home visit or at a later date.

Payment can also be arranged at this time, either online or via check. The adoption fee takes care of the cost to spay/neuter, feed, and transport our rescues. Some adopters also choose to make a donation at this time.

Payment: Online or by check
Unless a veterinarian advises otherwise, our dogs all receive: vet exam, spay or neuter, microchip, DHPP, bordatella, rabies vaccs, fecal exam, heartworm test, deworming, flea/tick preventative, and heartworm preventative, as well as additional services, as needed. Heartworm positive dogs also undergo heartworm treatment, which the rescue covers. The adoption fee covers these costs as well as any local boarding when foster homes are full and the costs of transport.

More about this rescue

Nerdy Paws Animal Rescue is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based animal rescue organization that advocates on behalf of homeless animals abandoned in severely under-resourced shelters throughout the Southeast region of the U.S. We place each adoptable companion into foster homes until his or her perfect "furever" home comes along.

We endeavor to circulate knowledge and promote initiatives that support compassion toward animals, such as responsible companion animal relationships, as well as legislative objectives, policies, and procedures that promote the humane treatment and better overall welfare of our four-legged friends.
