Hello, my name is Iris and I am an 8 years old, 41 lb mixed breed of all sorts. I have wiry hair, but I dont shed. Im probably a Terrier mix of some sort.(You know there are a lot of Terriers and when you get a mix you get the best of both worlds.) Because I have blue spots on my tognue, I probably have some how chow or shar-pei in my heritage somewhere. . Maybe my breeding is a mystery but Im an open book. My Human passed away when he & I were together. I guess you can say I was his faithful companion until the end. My Humans family didnt want me, so they surrendered me to a shelter. There was a kind shelter person who found a rescue to help me because she knew that a shelter environment can be really hard on a mature gal. Treasured Animal Rescue was the rescue that said, send her to us. Although Im middle aged, I have lots of life and love to share with my new family. My foster mom says Im the PERFECT dog. Im quiet and house trained, Im good on a leash, and I am very laid back and chill. I just love to just lay with my human on the couch is my favorite place to snuggle. I also like hanging out in my foster Grandmas room with some little dogs. We call that the little dog room but um, Im not little. Remember I weigh 41# but my personality is, so chill I just fit right in with the little dog pack. I am a happy girl who wags my tail gently when I meet new humans. Also, now that our weather is getting nicer, I enjoy sitting outside in the backyard. Sometimes I like baking in the sun, but sometimes I prefer the shade. I do need a fenced yard because I get skittish at sudden noises, and I dont want to become a stray. Im in a foster home that has other dogs, cats and kittens. I havent been around small kids, but I have met some elementary aged kids and that went well. TAR recommends I be in a house with kids 8 yrs old or older, just like me! When I first came to rescue, my coat and skin were not in great shape. However, now that Im getting really good doggie food and an occasional bath, Im doing a lot better. Keeping me on healthy food will help me have a happy, healthy life. Are you looking for a mellow girl who will lay by your feet and go for a leisurely walk and be your loving and faithful companion? Our foster home will coordinate a meet & greet. When scheduling a meet & greet all family members need to be present

Home Check
Home check is done after the meet & greet.All family members & current pets must be present. Final adoption is done at same time.

Sign Adoption Contract
When adoption is finalized all vet records and information regarding your new pet is provided.

To get started in adopting: Please fill out our adoption application and after reviewing our foster family will set up a meet & greet; if applicable. An adoption application link can be found in each Treasured Gems (adoptable pets) profile.
• Spay/neuter before adoption. If under 16 weeks, it will be coordinated with Adoptive family at one of our Rescue affiliated Veterinarian clinics. Treasured Animal Rescue MUST spay/neuter within 30 days of adoption date per the State of Illinois Animal Welfare Act (25 ILCS 605 Section 25.140
• Microchip and registration with HomeAgain. TAR has registered all microchips for our adoptable’s, and family's will be given a transfer form.
• Initial de-worming, flea & tick prevention/treatment (see note below) and heart worm prevention
• Age-appropriate testing for heartworm/FIV-FELV
• Age-appropriate vaccines
• Wellness check exam
**Note on fleas** Those sneaky little critters can hitch a free ride into your home aboard another pet, person, or even rodent, so it is important to make sure your new pet is protected. Depending on the time frame your adoptable pet has been in our foster care it might have had just 1 dose – which is not enough. Please consult with your Vet on putting your new adoptable pet on yearly flea/tick prevention – even if they are an indoor pet.
Adoption fees:
Puppies/Dogs - $400
Seniors - $275
**Some dog breeds require additional vetting which leads to an adoption fee to not adhere to the pricing guideline above. There are many circumstances where an adoptable pet has an adoption fee that varies from above schedule due to their vetting needs while in our foster care.
Cats & Kittens - $150
**Treasured Animal Rescue highly recommends adopting kittens in pairs, to avoid any potential behavioral issues like biting, scratching and not using the litter box. Also, adopting 2 kittens lessens stress on the tiny kitten which provides a healthier transition. **
